I want some suggestions for opening an evening Bible Study.
Doing the complete evening prayer is way too long.

Reading the collect of the week seems just a tad bit too short.

If for example we are reading about some particular Saint, I think we should open by praying a collect for them. But then what?

I think it's a good idea to start with a collect for that particular saint or whatever the bible studies theme is, but then why not make up something to pray afterwards? Write something yourself. Something specific that links the theme to the particular group that is present, and what you want them to get out of the study. :)

Have you considered doing the devotions for individuals and families? It is about one page long. That's how I open up Sunday School for the high schoolers

This is a plesant surprise:
30 January Charles King and Martyr, 1649

Red

Collect

King of kings and Lord of lords,

whose faithful servant Charles

prayed for those who persecuted him

and died in the living hope of your eternal kingdom:

grant us by your grace so to follow his example

that we may love and bless our enemies,

through the intercession of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

But the Early Church Fathers aren't in the bible, are they?

Sure they are.
Who do you think the Angel of the Church in Smyrna is in Rev 2:8?

I haven't got a clue.
I haven't studied Revelation in depth before; I've only read it through and wondered a lot. I need to read more about it.

Revelation
written by John the Evangelist
is possibly refering to the Bishop of Smyrna - Disciple of John the Evangelist, Polycarp.
