Just a quick question: how often does the Church of the Nazarene celebrate communion? Or does that vary from parish to parish?

We celebrate communion whenever the pastor takes a notion. Different pastors celebrate it different ways and at different times. We have recently installed a new pastor and he has clelbrated the Lord's supper with us twice in the four months he's been with us. This is a welcome change. I love remembering what the Lord has done for me in this significant way.

Our church does it monthly. However, I have noticed that only pastors are allowed to serve it (no laypeople).

We also do it monthly...with an additional communion on special Sundays. But we do sometimes have laypeople help to serve. It depends on how we're being served communion.

The frequency varies, in my experience of being a member of the Church of the Nazarene for over 34 yeasr.
The church manual states a minimum times per year that communion should be offered, but it may be served as often as a local congregation, or parish, as you call it, decides.

I have always loved the Church of the Nazarene. I used to go there regularly. Only thing is that I wish they would have communion much more often. I think I only remember taking communion in the Church of the Nazarene one time and I don't even remember for sure about then. I like those churches that have it weekly. The only church in my area that has it weekly is the Catholic Church and a local Fundamentalist Baptist Church.

Thanks for the replies. I like to have communion weekly, as I consider it a great way to focus our worship.

At my old church it was the first Sunday of every month. At the church I am not attending, we have celebrated it one or two times since September. Personally, I do like communion but I do not need it to stay close to God, that comes from my day to day walk.

We don't have any set schedule. I believe the idea is that If you do it too often people will begin to take it lightly. We do allow people other than the pastor to pass out the elements. If he did it all by himself it would take forever.

The manual states we should serve communion at least once each quarter. I prefer it be served more often. There is a movement among some Nazarene pastors toward serving communion at least every other week, if not weekly.
The pastor, usuallly an ordained elder, officiates at the communion service. Lay people who are members of the Board of Stewards are responsible for assisting the pastor prepare and serve the elements.
