Anyone read this novel by Michael O'Brien? Its about a carmelite monk who is asked, by the pope, to investigate someone whom the pope believes might be the antichrist.

I recommend it highly

I've read it and found it fascinating. I don't know whether the theology is correct, but it's certainly a gripping novel.

No, someone lent me this one.

What are the others like?

I haven't read them. But they sound very interesting. Father Elijah was very deep and thought-provoking. I wonder if the rest are as good?

has anyone else read them?

I read this book a couple months ago. I don't normally have an opportunity to read fiction but I thoroughly enjoyed this and found the theology wonderful, especially considering the Left Behind Series success.

amazing the difference between them, isn't it? I think the authors of left behind were just in it to make money. they stretched those books out
fffffooooorrrrreeeevvvvveeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Father Elijah, on the other hand, was excellent.

Though I agree the Left Behind books went on forever, and I wasn't as crazy about the last few as the first (sorry Pastor LaHaye ;) ) I would hate for anyone to honestly think they were in it just for the money.
They are godly men who, agree or disagree, had a message they wanted to share.

I haven't read the books you're talking about, but would like to.

Ya know, you're right, I went too far when I said they were just in it for the money. It was uncharitable of me, so I apologize. I don't agree with their views, and I didn't like the last few books. But, many in our bible study read the first ones. It was what led us to studying the book of Revelation.

However, I do think that there are better books out there. For me, Father Elijah was a better book. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

No problem.
Lifelong family friends have been members of Pastor LaHaye's church for 40 years. I've heard him preach many times. He married 2 of my girlfriends (wait, I mean performed the ceremony :D ). He's a truly godly man, so I got a teensy bit defensive when I read your post.
Now, just because I have tremendous respect for him as a man of God, doesn't mean I have to think they were the best books I've ever read. What I did like about the books was how they talked about the characters developing a personal relationship with God. How some of them turned their lives around and began to wholly trust in God. I loved that.

As far as the Father Elijah book, I would very much like to read that as well.
