Hi everyone. Sometime within the next couple of months, my RCIA class will be visiting a Jewish Synagogue. I post this here because I have a question for you all. Is a Jewish Synagogue and a Messianic Jewish worship place the same? Do you both worship in synagogues or do Messianic Jews call their places of worship churches? Please forgive me if this question is offensive but I seriously know next to nothing about Messianic Jews. :sorry: :o

I'm not going to answer for the messianics, but will say that a Jewish synagogue and a Messianic jewish worship place are not the same at all (although many messianics also call their worship place a synagogue). Have fun at the synagogue! I'm sure it will be interesting for you! There are often classes that go to my synagogue to observe as well :)

I was going to say the same thing but was afraid I'd get a warning, lol...

Curious Paladin... what type of a synagogue are you going to visit? Reform? Orthodox? other?

I'm not really sure. I'll have to ask my RCIA director sometime. I think it will be an Orthodox synagogue but I'm not certain.

Hi Paladin

If you don't mind...could I ask what "RCIA" stands for?

Thanks :)

Some messianic congregations conduct services that look a lot like typical protestant church services. Some conduct services that look very much like reform or conservative Jewish services. And there are probably even a few that follow more orthodox traditions for their services, although I've never personally come across such a congregation.

And just as the style of services vary, what the congregation refers to their group as varies as well. Although I don't know of any that refer to themselves as a church.

Having nearly converted myself:
RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and is a standard class for those entering or inquiring into the Roman Catholic Church
