I was talking to a Methodist today who said she did not believe everything in it.

Does not believe everything in what, Methodism or creeds? If it's the creeds, which one.

We often say the Apostles creed and I have no problem with it.

We also say the Apostles' Creed, which I believe. I wonder if the words "holy catholic church" throw this person off? I know it confused a visitor to my church (she was a friend of mine) - and I told her in this case it refers to the universal church.

Both the Apostle's Creed and the Nicean Creed are found in the UMC Hymnal which serves as the book of worship. So, one could say that, yes, the UMC is creedal. On the other hand, one could say that there are so many UMC'ers that ignore historic, biblical, Methodist Christianity that one might conclude that the UMC is not a creedal church.

The creeds are great for teaching and memorizing, but are not infallible or authoritative.

Our Free Methodist church hardly ever reads the Creeds. We concentrate on getting the message about Jesus Christ out.

I am a creedal Methodist. I believe the creeds.

We say the creeds in church almost weekly (sometimes the Apostles', and sometimes the Nicene).

I say the Nicene Creed every morning during prayer.

Your sister in Christ,
Grace

I dont mean that we dont believe in them. Its just that we concentrate on Gods Word more.

We are not bound by any creeds or church councils. We can also disagree with the UMC and still be members. Do you believe everything in The Book of Common Prayer? Do you believe everything that your denomination teaches?

The Nazarene Church believes thusly:

As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in embracing the historic Trinitarian creedal statements of Christian faith.

Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Church, which, as the Nicene Creed tells us, is one, holy, universal, and apostolic.

To confirm and correct our understanding of the Scriptures, we honor and heed the ancient creeds and other voices of the Christian tradition that faithfully explain the Scriptures.

The church read the Apostle creed every Sunday that they know it by heart. I see no problem with it.
