How important are revivals? I know some Baptist churches don't believe they're beneficial. Is there a need for organized revivals?

Discussion only, not for puffed up opinions of pride. We've all experienced different things.

Helpful, for bringing people to Christ for the first time.

Helpful, for edifying those who already know the Lord.

Not so helpful if there is no followup or discipling of those who have been renewed.

I agree! I love revivals, though, cause the more I get to go to church the better.

We had one in the fall of last year. It brought 3 children and 1 adult to the Lord.

Helpful, for edifying those who already know the Lord.

I know I was uplifted every day that I went. Seemed like everything was against me that week and I was determined not to let it keep me from going. The battle was won that week, God gave me the strength to go.

The lady that I said got saved that week....she has not been back to church since. Do you think she really got saved? I realize that going to church is not a requirement for salvation, but if you don't continue to feed that desire that only comes from the Holy Spirit how can you sustain a life devoted to the Lord?

What if or is the idea behind revivals to uplift the congregation so high to God that they are beaming with the light of the Lord. That they will shine outside of church to unbelievers. They will be so enthusiastic to want to share the experiences that God gives them to their neighbors, friends and family. Making them curious to want to come and seek God's face.

there hasn't been a REAL Spiritual revival in this country since the 1890's with D.L. Moody... and his contemporarys.

Most now are "Signs and Wonders" Circus shows. and Baptist Preaching Contests.

Ah, Matthew. Do you ever get tired of looking at a half empty glass?;)

Revivals (ecclesiastical, not neccessarily spiritual) are good because they do bring unbelievers into church. They are also good for the congregation because they usually bring in guest preachers, and sometimes it's good to hear something new. I've personally been edified by revivals, committing myself to a stronger faith and life in Christ.

I believe revival has to start with the individual making the effort to change thru prayer and obedience. Spiritual revival starts on our knees before God in prayer and proceeds into obedience by living a holy life before Him. At least that's how I see it, which don't mean much.

No Sir. I just call 'em like I see 'em.

~ Got to be 'vived' before one can be 're-vived.' That is, dead churches that have never been alive need to get some life in them before they can try to bring life to others.
~ Another way of saying it.
~ If what you have been doing for the past 100 years has not worked, why do you keep doing it?
~ Continue to discuss amongst yourselves...

Back in the eighties and nineties, we used to have revivals in the spring and in the fall.
Now we hardly have them but we did have one last spring.

I truly believe revival meetings are good for a church. The problem we seem to have in ours is that when we do have a revival, our members won't bother to even come - so they don't get revived! I can remember when that wasn't the case. Used to people would go to revival meetings.....church meant something. I think it is safe to say that people have gotten so hard-hearted that now they have to have a 'circus show' or special give aways constantly...truly a sad thing. If there ever was a 'need' for real revival - that time is now.
