Hi everybody!

I am writing a paper about the Intertestamental Period and I would like your inputs about the acceptability of using the term "Jews" when describing the people of Judah. I have heard before that this is a term that is less than positive and that the term "Jewish people" shoudl be used. But, since this is a paper about them, I feel kind of repetative and thesaurically-challenged when I keep using it over an over. :) So, is it true that in a generic situation describing the people of Judah the term "Jews" is a poor choice of words? What alternatives are there, since Israelites doesn't really apply to the Intertestamental Period?

Thanks!
Dave

Hello Brother Daveleau:

You could use "Tribe of Judah" of "Judaites" if you were refering to his descendants. If you were to refer to peoples living in Judah, in the time of the Southern Kingdom, you could refer to them as "People in Judah".

These are alternatives as I see it, but it would not be offensive to refer to these people as Jews to me, as a Jewish believer in Y'shua.

Does this help?

Shalom,

Dave,

The term "Jews" can be used negatively and has been. Though most people on this forum who use it don't use it in that manner. I tried to use the term "Jewish people" as often as possible.

I've noticed that the term Israeli is also preferred over jew.

The preffered term would be "the jewish people"

The term Jew being used far too many times from the outside as a pejorative

What about speaking of the people of Judah when Israel did not exist (intertestamental period) when it was split and Israel was called Galilee with Judah being the pirmary land of the Law?
