HOORAY! I'm sorry, but I was so SICK of hearing about USC going for the (ever-fallacious) 3-peat. First of all, the AP decided to be a part of, not separate from, the BCS, so when LSU won the BCS championship, USC had no right in any way shape or form to claim any spot of the national title that year, despite their childish whining.

I'm glad that Texas won, A) because I like them (and since they beat my Buckeyes, I figured at least I didn't dislike them, so it wasn't a huge biggie for me). Of course, imo, the true number 2 team was not there. It shoulda been No. 1-Texas against No. 2-Penn State. Notre Dame, by rights, beat USC, and USC only won by an illegal play at the end of the game that was ever-so-conveniently not called as a penalty. USC should have been, at best, number 3.

Still, they put up a good fight against Texas, so at least they did deserve SOME of their hype. Just not all of it.

So, in summation, Texas rocks, and USC can kiss my lily white butt. :) (The football team... I've nothing against the school overall as of yet)

I have to agree about the Notre Dame thing...they lost because of some REALLY bad officiating...USC had A LOT of close games this year...it just finally caught up with them...

Well I'm somewhat of an oddity. I player football and baseball in high school till I was hurt bad and then ever since then I havn't cared to watch either one. Still enjoy the strategy of both but they're too commercial for me. Occasionally on the holidays and the relatives are watching but otherwise, no.

As I have mentioned on these forums before, I follow the Iowa St. Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes because I have a degree from each school, but last night I was a big UT fan because my niece goes there. Hook 'em Horns!

Those of us who watched the game saw a moment of history - I don't think there has ever been a more dominant performance by a single player (Vince Young) in such a big game, and doubt that there will be another one like it for a long time.

It doesn't matter the score. USC will always be #1 in my eyes. They are still one of the best college football teams ever and Matt Leinhert is still the best college quarterback in history. Two losses in 3 years is not too shabby.

But don't worry USC will be back next year to reclaim their rightful spot as national champs. Fight on!

Torn right shoulder roter cup
2 knee surgeries and a ruptured disk...........that ended everything.
we didn't have face shields and all the padding back in the fifties
lost quite a few players to injuries

I wasn't big enough to be too competitive...just fast as a right/left halfback, tight end or running back

1) The APs action had nothing to do with any "whining" by USC.
2) USC beat Notre Dame fair and square. Lucky? Yes. But let's face it, any time Notre Dame loses is further proof of a loving and benevolent God.
3) If USC beat Notre Dame by bad officating, what on earth do you call last night??? Vince Young was clearly down when he pitched the ball for the first TD, and the refs didn't review it. Second, the "incomplete" pass was CLEARLY AND INDISPUTABLY a fumble, and the refs botched that one, too. That's 14 points handed to TX on a silver platter by the REFS.

The bottom line is that Texas did not beat USC so much as USC and the REFS gave them the game with stupid plays and bad calls.

That's not to take anything way from TX: they're a great team and they worked hard to get to the Rose Bowl. But they had help winning last night.

And bear in mind, I'm not a fan of the University of Spoiled Children (there is another nickname inapppropriate for a Christian board which I won't write out...): I go to UCLA.

Cheers,

Kepler

As a fellow member of the Buckeye Nation, I too, was pulling for Texas for the same reason. Both of the teams that beat OSU ended up in great Bowl games and both of them won. There's no shame in losing to the eventual National Champion (besides the trophy will be ours again soon)!

I think USC had had their moment in the sun and it was good to see someone else get their turn. Plus, that had to have been one of the most exciting football games I have ever seen. What an ending! Kinda reminds me of the OSU-Miami championship game in the Fiesta Bowl a couple of years ago.

2) USC beat Notre Dame fair and square. Lucky? Yes. But let's face it, any time Notre Dame loses is further proof of a loving and benevolent God.

Winning by sole virtue of being able to turn down instant replay and thus win on an illegal play is not luck, it is not fair, it is unfair and shady at best.

And USC scored on at least 3 plays when holding or blocking in the back occurred and it wasn't called. And they got a completion when the ball clearly hit the ground. I'd say it balanced out.

And no, the incomplete pass on Texas' part wasn't indisputably a fumble. He did not take a step yet, nor had he gone down. By rule that is an incomplete.

I call last night some belated balancing of the scales. USC finally got what they've been sowing all year.

Some of us watched the game. And some of us watched what we wanted to. The former saw Texas win hands down.

1) The APs action had nothing to do with any "whining" by USC.

I don't buy that. They didn't say anything about voting USC number 1 until Pete Carroll started saying "we're really the chamions in my opinion." Then it started. Possibly a coincidence, but it's too suspicious for me to be so benefit-of-doubt giving.

Oh, God!!!

Not here, too!

Hate the dream, live the nightmare!

Burnt orange is SUCH an UGLY color!!!

And I had to spend all day with t-sips at work, and then all evening at a congregational meeting with Lutheran wronghorns...

Of course, I did have to point out several things to them today:

1.) They claim four MNC's, but in reality, they may only have one:

a. In 1963, the Fightin' Texas Aggies led the sips 13-7 late in the fourth quarter. However, the sips drove down near the endzone and threw a pass which was intercepted by an Aggie defender. However, the ref incorrectly ruled that the Aggie was out of bounds (photography later revealed the Aggie as clearly IN bounds), so, they should have really lost that game and the 1963 title.

b. 1969 seems to be legit.

c. 1970, they won all the regular season games, President Nixon declared them national champs, but they went on to get stomped by Notre Dame (I don't know which is worse!) in the 1971 Cotton Bowl. How can you be national champs if you get whipped in the bowl game?!

Funny thing is, the Austin unAmerican-Statesman put a listing in today's paper about CONSENSUS Big XII MNC's, and it also lists Nebraska in 1970. How can that be a consensus?!

d. 2005, replays show that the t.u. ball carrier was down, but a touchdown was awarded anyway. I know it was early, but it COULD have changed the game with a correct call.

However, to be fair, the Luckeyes, Tennessee and Colorado have claimed MNC's (if memory serves) with similar officiating...

Oh well, I just know Jesus and Martin Luther would be Aggies if they were here today, since they understood the kingdom of this world is one of suffering (literally, theologia crucis). ;)

I'll quit venting now...

Are you sure? I mean if you still need to vent I will sede the floor back to you for a few more minutes.

I think it is interesting how states which have more than one big team that have vied for the National Championship will not support the other school.

Why is that? You were and Aggies fan you say but was Texas A&M in a bowl? I spent a whole semester in one class at UT Arlington to finish out my bachelors degree. I don't support UT A or UT or TCU or A&M because I am not from Texas. However, I will say that Vince Young is a tremendous QB with a great future ahead of him. I also like USC because I like the coach there and what's not to appreciate about Reggie Bush. His talent will take him a long way.

In Minnesota, we support any school in the state that is up for a national title. If 2 teams are going for the same title that is different, but the Longhorns represented all of Texas as USC represented the State of California.
