Well, I must say, as my studying and scriptural knowledge increase, I feel pulled into the beliefs of many Messianic Jews. I feel that the Jews are God's chosen people...the Bible clearly says this. Also, the End times surrounds Israel. I'm convinced Messianic Judaism holds many truths....more so than any other denomination out there today.

I now feel it is important for me to learn more. I, to some degree, think I'm turning messianic. But can this be? I'm a non-denominational Christian. Even if I believe in the same theology as many of you and even go to a messianic church...could I ever be considered a messianic jew? Would it be messianic gentile?

I'm also, looking for some books to read on Messianic Judaism...anyone know some good titles?

First off, let me say welcome home prodical son. This a spiritual journey you are on. You are heading towards your Father's House. As you draw closer, you leave behind the pig pen, the life of lust, greed and look forward to returning to the simpler life in Him. There is no creed, doctrine, or conversion, as the Lord has led you, so you have found yourself. This is not a place where people dictate to you before you become a member. The Lord has led you and is leading you. Let Him continue. We are all fellow sojourners and looking forward to the promised land. We have many things to share about our journey as you have about yours. Please give a testimony in our introduction section, that we may get to know you a little bit better.

There are a great many books available to quench the thirst and fill the belly full of meat.

Psalm 17:14 From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

Shalom Jig,

Remember all that stuff about "neither Jew or Greek", etc.? The early church was ALL Jewish believers that were converting gentiles. As time passed by the balance shifted to more gentile than Jew. All these things were prophecied. Try to remember that you are "grafted in", OK? The terminology can be deceptive, but the promise is clear. Welcome.

Jig,

Welcome home. I would say a majority of Messianic Jews and Gentiles have come out of the church. I was in the church and felt like Something was missing. When I heard about a Messinanic congregation about a hundred miles away I went and checked it out. My wife and I both had tears in our eyes through the whole service. That was over 12 yrs ago.

I would suggest you read the book "Betrayed" by Stan Telchin.

I really enjoy this religion!! In my heart and mind it feels so right. I'm getting stronger every day with the kosher diet, the holy days and the Shabbat. It was a little hard at first but now it is much easier. Don't get discouraged if you don't get it right away. You might eat pork for a while or not rest on the Shabbat but as they say " Rome wasn't built in one day. " I am changing so much and it's not even a sacrifice. It is something I totally want to do. I just want to live life the way G-d wants me to. It is so simple. Live like the early Christians. Welcome and G_d bless.

I don't feel it's wrong to type out the o in G-d...or L-rd...

However, I do believe that the names of G-d and His Son our Savior are so holy that they deserve reverence and not the casual bandying about that seems so prevelent in today's society...

In medieval times, when the monks were copying the Bible, they would cut a new flawless quill every time they came to a name of G-d, write His name, and then burn the quill...reason....His name is so Holy that only the new can write it, and then never be used again....anything that has touched something that holy, shouldn't be used for the mundane...

Anyhow, so I started taking that example to heart, long before I found my jewishness ;)

Shalom

Oh how exciting! A great book for teaching about the feasts from a Christian/Hebraic perspective is "A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays" by Robin Sampson & Linda Pierce, you can purchase it at www.heartofwisdom.com (http://www.heartofwisdom.com) . It is what I would consider "lighter" in the Judaism and really helps to show you the link between God's precious festivals and Yeshua our redeemer. It also goes over the traditional ways of celebrating God's appointed times from a Judaic perspective. Very good, written for families with kids, which helps me understand things better sometimes too! It also will give you ideas of how to celebrate etc. You are on a wonderful journey, and I am thrilled for you. This is a blessing you have been given from the Lord. Take it a step at a time and always seek His will on your journey!
Shalom Shalom!

Also, I don't how this stands with Messianic Jews but certainly non-Messianic Jews believe that once the names of God are written, they should never be destroyed, so many try to avoid writting the names.

1."Restoration" by D.Lancaster

Restoration
Returning the Torah of God to the Disciples of Jesus By D. Thomas Lancaster

This is the book you have been waiting for. Lancaster has written a powerful new introduction to Torah in which he graciously presents the Torah and its message in simple and easy to understand terms.

Restoration will assist thousands of believers to make the transition to Torah and discipleship in Yeshua. Those who are already on the path will find this book helpful in verbalizing their convictions. More than that, they will find it to be a compelling tool in presenting the message of Torah to friends and family.

Torah is for Christians! Jumpstart your Christian Friends’ Exploration of God’s Law!

Biblical Christianity was originally a sect of Judaism that believed in Jesus and revered the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy) as the core of her Scriptures. Restoration is a riveting argument for a return to that original, biblical expression of faith in Jesus.

Discover for yourself the profound beauty of Torah life, the celebration of the biblical Sabbath and the appreciation of God’s Holy Feast Days. Your eyes will be opened to another dimension of the faith that is beginning to re-emerge among Christians worldwide.

Lancaster answers common theological objections to the Torah, while demonstrating that Christians are already keeping more of God’s Law than they realize. This thought provoking, theological boat-rocker is a fun-to-read, inspiring journey into the world of the Bible.

anything from FFOZ will help the Christian with their studies

2. Also books on line by E.Chumney(free to read)

"The Seven Festivals of the Messiah", and "Who's the Bride"

http://www.hebroots.com/heb_root.html#SevenFestivalsBook

3. My Favorite Teacher... J. Good has the untimate endtimes book on the Festivals "Rosh Ha Shannah and the Messianic Kingdom to Come"

http://www.hatikva.org/

http://store.hatikva.org/catalog/images/pixel_trans.gif This popular book by Joseph Good explains the Fall festivals, particularly Rosh HaShanah. In addition, all the Biblical festivals are discussed depicting the role of the Messiah, His return to earth and how prophecy is woven throughout these festivals. This is the book that helped start the Hebrew Roots movement. It is a MUST HAVE for your library and to begin or compliment your studies.

Joe also has a wonderful series on video that will blow your socks off ...It is a complete study of the book of Isaiah....sounds boring huh? well it is soooooooooooo exciting, the best kept secret in the messianic world, this teaching is now 10 years old and was so prophetic(of course it's Isaiah but the teaching was prophetic too, (and he wasn't even trying to be) we are seeing the words spoken back then about Israel happening today) and historic and teaches every book of the bible as it relates and intersects Isaiah and his message and as he teaches he lays a very detailed hebraic timeline for the future and he teaches the foundation of our hebraic roots(ie Sabath, Festivals ect) too....awesome!!!!!

4. about paganism in the church

yes

"Fossilized Customs"by Lew White

I use to be able to get it for a dollar a copy from the author... it's $9 at Amazon

"Come out of Her my People" by Dr. Chris Koster

And I even like A Christian Fellow who says he was an ex Luminati Witch(regardless this Video will make you think about what we are doing messing around with Paganism)
America's Occult Holidays - Video by Doc Marquis

Too many Christians are enthusiastically celebrating pagan holidays, thinking they are Christian. Once you understand how very pagan America and the rest of the Western world has become, you can see how God's judgment cannot be far behind. In this video, former Illuminist Satanist, Doc Marquis, demonstrates the truth -- our holidays have been copied from Satanism and just given Christian names. You will be shocked to realize how very pagan our annual celebrations are! You will be shocked to realize how most of the symbols used in our holidays originated within Satanism.

ACK! That is so funny! After I first had a little glimpse into all of these things my mother in law loaned me that book, I could not put it down and I needed a pen and paper by me at all times as the revelations were just pouring out...it was incredible, everywhere I went I was writing and reading... what an awesome time it was! The sad thing is my MIL has read this book and thinks we are a bit off course here in our walk and that we will realize our error soon.:sigh: I keep praying though! She actually loaned me several great books that propelled my relationship with the Lord!

I have some questions:

I've seen two dates on Jesus's (Yeshua's) death. The Messianic date is 27 A.D. while many other Christian denoms, say it was 33. A.D. Why is this? How is the date 6 B.C. to 27 A.D. for Yeshua's birth and death verified?

Reference: http://www.messianic.com/articles/yeshua.htm
----------------------------

Also, I heard many MJs do not use the title "Christians". Wikipedia says: Some make this choice because of its negative connotations to the Jewish community and some because they prefer to label themselves in a manner that reflects their Jewish identity. Still others reject this label because their worship, practices, and observances bear little resemblance to those of Christianity.

How many of you do dont accept or use the title Christian and why? The NT points out believers as "Christians". (Acts 26:28, 11:26; 1 Peter 4:16)
----------------------------

Wikipedia also mentions some MJs dont use crosses to display their faith, and: scrupulously avoid many traditional Christian terms that evoke negative emotional reactions among Jews and substitute neutral terms, e.g., Christ (Messiah), church (congregation, ke-hi-lah, shul), Cross (tree, execution stake), crucifixion (death, execution), crucified (executed, put to death, nailed to the tree, hanged on a tree) I'm just interested to hear reasonings behind this and why.

Thanks for any replies, just curious here.

Thanks for any replies, just curious here.well I think to protect the dignity of the Jews is important and actually alot of these Titles are better expressed in other words, some because they have More meaning using the Hebraic Term
