Brethren and Sisters,
If you are veteran to this forum you know the rules and format. To those who are visiting for the first time I feel compelled to warn you first that because you are of the Baptist faith, you will be targets of those who oppose anybody of Baptist Denomination. Because we believe in things which go against The Catholic beliefs,as well as those of Lutheran and Methodist and Orthodox as well as Evangelicical denominations, you will be easy targets to pick on. If you are of Baptist faith and hold any one or more of Calvins beliefs, you will be targeted. While I believe and say that not all here are like that, there are some who do. Because we believe that the Bible is God's word to man and it is the only, certain, infallible, inerrant rule to salvation, you will be attacked. Because we believe that Baptism in and of itself does not impute salvation, it is our outward testamony of our death to the old self and the resurrection anew in Christ, you will be attacked. Because we believe that communion is an ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ to do in remembrance of Him until His return, and that his blood and body is not actually present in the communion, you will be attacked. Because we believe in the "trinity" God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, you will be attacked. Because we believe in "predestination" and "election" you will be attacked. Because we believe man in and of himself, is wicked and depraved, and in need of a Savior, you will be attacked. Because we believe salvation is found only in Jesus Christ and that through confession and regeneration that comes by the Holy Spirit, you will be attacked. Because we believe that the church (local) is the body of Christ and that we also belong to another church (universal), you will be attacked. Because the local church is self-governing, even though we belong to an association, you will be attacked. Because we chose Sunday as our day to worship because this is the day the Lord arose from the grave, and not Saturday as others, you will be attacked. Because we believe that the pulpit was ordained in the Old Testament for men, and Paul's qualifications in the New Testament are for men, you will be attacked. Because we believe that the family consists of a father(man), a mother (woman) and children (boys and girls), you will be attacked. Because we believe that homosexuality is a sin as defined in the Old Testament and in the book of Romans by the apostle Paul, you will be attacked. There are good Christians in this forum, but there are those who look to attack and debate you because of your beliefs. So if you are "young" in the faith, be ready. These ideas are not mine, the items of "homosexuality" are in the Bible and the other items I have discussed are contained in The Baptist Faith and Message of 2000. And can be found here:

I agree that there are some wolves posing as sheep here in B/AB, but I can honestly say I think there's more in some of the other subforums (Spirit Filled, Catholic,GT). Because most of us stand firm on the fundamentals of our faith, I think it's hard sometimes for an evil spirit to cause havoc in here.
Now, there have been some, uh, discussions amongst ourselves that have gotten pretty heated, but I think in the end, no one was hurt or offended to the point that it caused bad feelings. We're a resilient bunch.

Why would you be attacked and in what way would you be attacked?
For every doctrine listed above, there are other denominations/sects out there who disagree with it. This has been going on since biblical times, and not only with Baptists. Human pride will not let people co-exist in disagreement. Someone always has to be right, and someone always has to be wrong. Someone always has to promote themselves and their ideas above others to get attention.

Having a backbone and actually standing for something will always get you attacked. I do not fear attacks for they are evidence that I am standing for something.
Luk 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Luk 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
Luk 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6:10-18 KJV)

I am not sure what has happened I know the rules are that you cannot elaborate but one thing I have learned. Posting here is adhering to rules set here. Set for a reason. If there is a rule that you wish to change, talk with someone about it. There are times the "rules" bother me too, but I chose to continue to post here, in doing so I agree to honor these rules.
As far as being attacked. I have also learned that by being attacked it not only has made me stronger in my faith.. But strong not only my answers to those attacks, but the way I communicate those answers.
Remembering -- We should get along with all men.
Romans 12:18
18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
“IF at all possible” That is the key thing for everyone to learn, when it is possible to get along and not. How much of the truth should be compromised in the process?
But the Good Lord told us to shake the dust off our feet for a reason. If there are those whom will not listen to truth. There is nothing more we can do-- OR will ever be able to do. It is no longer in our hands.
I love having you around you have been a wonderful "study" and "discussion" partner I would hate to see you go. :sigh:
Times I feel it is time for me to go from here, I have actually found there is something God wants me to learn before I do. Maybe, if you search in your heart you will find those things God wishes for you to understand about what more you can do to glorify Him in this situation. or Perhaps it is just not where God wants you to be. Please do not toss all of us out the door for a few bad apples (Thinking to myself boy I sure hope he is not addressing me - I think we sit on opposite sides of the fence on a few issues but nothing this drastic - at least not to me? If it is anything I ever did - please PM me - because I would hate to think I have offended and not realized it and could have addressed something in a better way?)

I wasn't implying that you treated people badly. I was merely pointing out that the attacks similar to those that were referred to in the original post aren't directed only at Baptists, and that many, not all, Baptists do the same thing to others.

I think we should praise the Lord when we are 'attacked' for our beliefs. It's not like being called a few names on an internet forum is going to achieve us martyr status. When the day comes that fundamental bible believers are beheaded, fed to lions and/or crucified, then we'll have something to whine about.

God bless each and every one of you who posted in this thread. And you are right, it's not just this B/AB thead, but in all of them. It got so bad last week (1/1/06-1/7/06) that I actually went back and deleted my posts so that I wouldn't be offending anyone and no-one could attack me. When people get in here and teach that Eve had sex with Satan in the garden of Eden, and other such bunk, and you reply and get bashed for it, it no longer becomes worth fighting for when you are the only one fighting for the truth. At least sometimes it feels that way. So my reasons are just that when you are bashed for it over and over again, it gets downhearting sometimes. And for those who are new in the faith, it could be discouraging. I just wanted them to be prepared for whats coming. Like I said, God bless each one of you. And I'll be more careful what I post from now on. If you see me on-line, say hi. God Bless.

You know when I first arrived here one person wrote in a thread "The Bible is sexist and was written by men, for men, about men" amongst some other really shocking assessments and statements. At first I just thought they misunderstood but this poster was bent on this as a fact. (IN the Christians Only side of the forums!) And they were gathering a supporting crowd!
I had a cow! But the fact of the matter is - there are people out there that DO believe these things. Our role is not to become angry about everything and cram it down people’s throats until they get it, but share what we can, when we can, then shake the dust. It truly has taught me much about communicating and sharing the gospel.
Sometimes we see others "get it" other times we will never know. In my life people have come back to me months later to say - "Hey, just wanted you to know I completely understand now" other times I just have to wonder - if others ever did.
Sometimes I feel some of these posts are just to antagonize. If I get a feel for that type of thread, I ignore it. Reformationist another member that spent a lot of time in GT drives me insane – but I understand why he does this now! LOL (not sure if he is still around doing his thing or not but he is really good at it -making sure people have a firm grasp on from whence they came!)
Honestly, that is why I stick here most times because as I have said before - I don't need any more spiritual warfare in my life! I get enough here ;)
Seriously though I think this is where we you remember not to throw pearls to swine. If you cannot answer, especially after study --- shake the dust -- it might be that your not supposed to. :)

I don't find telling a 14 year old - they are 14 years old. Now if the 14 year old cared to elaborate on the "issues" held with the statement, this would be a different story. But the 14 year old is answered in the same manner in which responded to the thread. Without concern for inquiry just "opinion" specifically theirs.
I am no stranger to having children speak truth, however I am also not given to enamoring the idea a 14 year old could have near enough maturity to discuss on the same level as adults. They simply do not "think" at the same capacity that we do and emotionally are not adept as we are. Spiritual matters could very well surprise us. But for this comment in this situation, I do not see this as condescending at all. In fact, I wish more men would step up to the plate and teach some respect.
I see nothing wrong with Deacon Deans bit of advice. If the 14 year old is wise - listening would not be an issue.

I have been all the way to the Persian Gulf, east. And to the Pacific Ocean, west. I have seen how Christians of all denominations are attacked in the world. I have been to countries where it is against the law to claim to be a Christian. In these same countries you can be killed for being a Christian. Where have you been that you could offer a world opinion on anything? I did not attack you, did I accuse you of anything? I have been on this forum for seven months now and have received attacks because I am Baptist almost daily. But I don't let that bother me too much. Jesus said "if they have persecuted me, they will persecute you; the servant isn't better than the master." I was issuing a warning to those who are new to this forum so that they would know what to expect. And I still stand by what I said. At 14 years old, I can't help but wonder if you are old enough to be "worldly." There aren't very many 14 year old teens that are theologians. If you are then I'm sorry, but for you to come in here and then take issue with the SBC Articles of Faith and tell me I'm condesending, friend I believe with all my heart you are wrong! And if you wouldn't mind, please tell me what accusations I was so rude in. Have you read all my posts? Have you walked a mile in my shoes? In these same countries you can be killed for being a Christian. Where have you been that you could offer a world opinion on anything? I did not attack you, did I accuse you of anything?

Only condescending when you just passed by everything I said, with the excuse which bassically said " I am better older and wiser than you, fourteen year old."

That is very condescending right there, you tell me not to judge you, when I have only judged yoiur actions, then you turn right around and judge my spirituality.
I did not tell you not to judge me. All I asked was have you walked a mile in my shoes. If thats judgmental then I apolagize. And when someone come in and says to me that without baptism there is no salvation, which as a Baptist I do not believe, then that is an attack on the Baptist faith. Which, BTW, is what the Catholic demoniation believes. And I quote PaladenVader on that. When someone tells me that I am sinning because we as Baptists do not observe Saturday as our Sabbath, what do you expect me to do?
Then why is the warning only to your baptist brethren
Because it has been my experience that we take a beating in here, and because some of us Baptist just happen to agree with some of what John Calvin taught. Example: The thread entitled; Why won't Baptist repent of Calvinism.
Then the age comment was just put out there right?
No you come in here talking like an adult and asking me where had I been. My Dad always said "If you want to walk and talk like an adult, then I'm gonna treat you as an adult." That's what I did to you and you called me "condescending?"
Only condescending when you just passed by everything I said, with the excuse which bassically said " I am better older and wiser than you, fourteen year old."That is very condescending right there, you tell me not to judge you, when I have only judged yoiur actions, then you turn right around and judge my spirituality.
Listen friend, I served 6 years in the Marine Corps, I have a Masters Degree in Theology, I'm 43 years old, I was licensed to preach in 2002, ordained a Deacon in 2000 at 38, (evidently my church saw something me worthy of such high honors) I got my Masters in 2005, now I'm gonna ask this nicely, what can you as a 14 year old, teach me that I don't already know? I've got 29 years of experience in this world over you, what do you know that I don't? The one thing in the world you cannot teach a person is experience. Well at least my 17 year old son is wiser than you. At least he knows how to listen to those who are older than him. I would amost bet that you are the type of person who would argue with a preacher. Oh wait a minute, you don't believe in going to church, I'm sorry friend, for all I said. Forgive me and let me pray for you.

We all get attacked. And we all take it personal, because it's an attack on our long held and strong beliefs. As my pastor is wont to say, if you're not getting attacked, you're doing something wrong.
Now, what do we do when we get attacked? Let it cause us to harbor sinful thoughts? No. We love other people enough to either take the high road and try to engage in intelligent discussion, or, as Christ told the Apostles, shake the dust off your feet when you leave.
It's our choice as to how we respond.

I did not tell you not to judge me. All I asked was have you walked a mile in my shoes. If thats judgmental then I apolagize
Incorrect, you said I needed to mature in my faith. thats judging.
And I won't judge you no matter what "see signature"
When someone states what they believe it is not attacking you. For example I could say I like stat wars, that is not an attack on the star wars haters.
Because it has been my experience that we take a beating in here, and because some of us Baptist just happen to agree with some of what John Calvin taught. Example: The thread entitled; Why won't Baptist repent of Calvinism.
NEver seen the thread. ok and if you are just sending to your baptist. Then what about the other people. It wouldn't be so bad if you posted to all. but only to a small section of CF. No everyone gets attacked.
No you come in here talking like an adult and asking me where had I been. My Dad always said "If you want to walk and talk like an adult, then I'm gonna treat you as an adult." That's what I did to you and you called me "condescending?"
If that was the case then there was no need for the fourteen year old I am wiser then you comment.
There you go again. You go off thinking I am way dumber then you when you don't know me, thats judging, and condescending.
I've got 29 years of experience in this world over you, what do you know that I don't? The one thing in the world you cannot teach a person is experience. Well at least my 17 year old son is wiser than you. At least he knows how to listen to those who are older than him.
Judging and condescending and if anyone disagrees feel free to post it.
I would amost bet that you are the type of person who would argue with a preacher. Oh wait a minute, you don't believe in going to church, I'm sorry friend, for all I said. Forgive me and let me pray for you.
If you were sorry, why not erase the rude and judgmental condescending remarks before you posted this reply, or maybe you still wanted me to hear. IT, maybe to make me feel bad, that is rude and condescending, and this is without the time to even talk to me. I feel very insulted.
RED that's ME
