View Full Version : Expensive pets?

jenn82

I have noticed as I am sure others have that some pets are being put up for adoption for ridiculous prices. Is there a way for those pets to be tracked back to the owner and stopped? I was just wondering...

Thanks for your time...
Jennifer

I'm not sure but it has been mentioned on here and for people to not buy them because of them trying to make "blessings" off of them.

You may want to post in Support and alert them to it. Btw, Jenn that was sweet. You didn't have to give back the blessings for Coolness :)

Thank you very much though!:hug::hug::hug:

I exclaimed rather loudly when I saw that cat for 10,000. The pet rescuers have decided not to adopt any pet that costs more than the 700 required to make a pet. That expensive pet will end up being deleted at the end of the month.

Is that the same pet that was adopted at 3000?? I wish there was a way to find out who is doing that....

I don't think it's the same pet because this cat is only 2 days old and the dog was 1 day old on December 29.

There is a little pet listed now for adoption for 10,000. I just took in Lily who was dying and had only a few hours left. It cost me zillions to get her health up. I had to put LilMissMagic in petcare, so I have FIVE DAYS to find a home for Lily. HELP!!! YIKES.

If you don't buy the really expensive pets, they will die and the owners will have lost 700 blessings or however much they bought them for. I don't think it's fair that they buy something for 700 blessings, then get 10,000 from someone who desperately wants to save the pet from dying.

Has this been going on for a while? Or has it only been happening since there's been members crusading to save pets? Because that would make sense...

CFpetRESCUER6

I think it is something they started to extort blessings from the rescuers. Those little pets will die if we don't pay the outrageous prices. I really don't know what can be done.:mad::mad:

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. Since they've seen all the hype about the Pet rescuers, they've figured that one of you guys will buy the pet for 3,000 etc, and they will get the money. It's a lose-lose situation for the pet rescuers - if you leave the pet, it will die; if you buy it, you will be paying a huge amount to someone who is just extorting you guys.

I have just seen two people begging for blessings. They have bought pets and now can't afford to keep them. One bought hers for about 500 from the adoption center and has about 40 blessings left. She has just over 40 posts I believe.

It is so annoying! You don't buy a pet then beg people for blessings!

There should be a minimum post that you must achieve before buying a pet. GRRR.

I agree, as much as I love the giving thread and others it is amazing how some members have have come out of the woodwork to ask and beg for blessings.

Anyone who buys a pet, or adopts one, has to agree to this:

You must follow these guidelines. NOTE: Creating a CF Pet will use up 700 blessings.
· You must look after your pet and keep it happy.
· You must feed your pet to stop it getting hungry.
· If your pet is hungry it will lose health and pleasure.
· If your pet has no health for 5 days it will die.

Sadly, I see many people violating these rules. They shouldn't get extra blessings and help from people for doing the wrong thing. It's sad because they will get blessings, they will get help from CF members, when they shouldn't be getting hand-outs. It's so annoying.

I have just put up my pet for adption today for 700 blessings and I did not know there were restrictions because, you spend so much blessings feeding the pet and changing it's color and things

but 3000 is ridiculous

Yes, I see that 3 years old Daisy in the pet care for 10,000 blessing. If we were to spend $10,000 blessing to buy every pet...we would only be able to save 4 pets.

I wondered if that person brough the pet for 3000 blessing because there were no other pets up for adoption? I was actually surprise to find that the pet be saved.

GodsGirl
3rd January 2006, 01:27 PM
I think 700 blessings is fair. You put it up for the same amount it cost for what you paid for it. (I realize this is not real life but..) Pet adoptions though shelters in real life are just as expensive as if you would buy a puppy.

CFpetRESCUER6

I'm sad to say that since we cannot rescue all the dying pets, we'll have to save the ones we can and those who were created or placed in the center for selfish reasons will have to be left. It is not a good thing, but we're not helping the rescue cause to sacrifice so many blessings that we could save many pets with to only save one or two. Does anyone else have other solutions? :prayer:

Dena200

Mayb you should only be able to buy a pet if you have a job. (that is for the people who buy pets but can't afford to keep them.)

Dena200

I don't have a solution for the ppl who put pets up for adoption just to get blessings. But that is really cruel. Not only to the animals but also to the CF Rescuers. I know this isn't real but it still is kind of cruel.

I think it borders on obscene for someone to put pets up at such horrendous prices trying to prey on the rescue efforts. I really do not know how we can make a statement about this. It saddens me to think that people would be so mean. :(

Why can't there be a limit as to how much a pet is adopted for? If I were to go to my local "real" animal shelter a dog is adopted for $60. What if there was a flat fee for all adoptions? Like 500 blessings? I know that would be loosing money but then there wouldn't be the extortion that is going on. I also agree that a person should have so many posts to own a pet as well. Or be a site supporter if they wanted one sooner.

:) It is a good suggestion, however we need to remember that you can become a site supporter the moment you sign up (with only 1 or 0 post) and if a member deposits into the bank all the blessings he or she gets as a site supporter ...

what I am trying to say is: a minimum post limit might effect site supporters or those new members with only a few posts but who received blessings and put them into the bank. They could not become pet owners.

Reporting is not something you might like to do, but begging for blessings is against the rule and you could report those members who beg for blessings.

It seems that most of you seem to agree that there should be a maximum price for all pets that are up to adoption.

This is what I would suggest:

Those of you who think that way and agree, should discuss the maximum price (how much), and then one of you could go to "Suggest New Feature" forum and request Erwin to set the limit (no pet can be put up for adoption higher than ... blessings). And whoever does make this suggestion in "Suggest New Feature" should post a link in this thread so that the others who agree and think the same, can post and say "I agree" ... or make a poll here and post a thread to the poll.

CFpetRESCUER1

I think the only thing we can do for the over priced pets is ignore them and hope the creater gets the message.

The price restriction is a good idea, as well. Any volunteers? Or has it already been done?

Maxium price has already been asked and denied... sorry dont have link for it... Has been working ok with not adopting the pet if over certain amount..... until the two at adoption center now for 5000 and 10,000.... they will get the message that we are not going to just give them that much....

I, too, am against a maximum price. If a few people create pets to get blessings and end up losing the 700 blessings it cost them to create them, then people will get the message. I've looked in the adoption center several times lately, and the overall price of pets to be adopted has declined, with the couple of notable exceptions already discussed here.

Realistically, we can't save every virtual pet. Some people are going to set the prices on their pets artificially high as a form of emotional blackmail, knowing that we do want to save them. We can help the person who honestly wants to get his pet adopted out because he's leaving, he can't afford the blessings, he doesn't want to be a pet owner any more, or for other legitimate reasons.

That's what we are here for, not to pander to the greediness of a few opportunists. If we stick to a limit on what we will pay for pets, the abusers will get the message. It's already happening.

I was going to offer to adopt Daisy and put her in daycare just til I get my Suzie Jo back but if you think it's a bad idea to pay that high price I'll let it go. Hate to when there's something I can do but you have a point about not letting some greedy person get away with this sort of thing.

Just happened to think that I should just donate 10,000 blessings to the pet rescue effort instead of paying it to Daisy's owner. Except I forgot now how to donate. It's been awhile, shame on me! Do I just give it to any of the pet rescuers? :help:
