hope i was allowed... anyway..... can someone explain this to me a litle better. i am a bit confused.... thank you!!!
23. For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread. 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25. In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenent in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. 28. Let a man examine him-self, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. 30. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and many have died. 31. But if we judged ourselves truly, we[Paul even includes himself in this group by using we] should not be judged. 32. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned with the world.
33. So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait one for another 34. If any one is hungry, let him eat at home--lest you come together to be condemned. About the other things I will give directions when I come.http://www3.christianforums.com/images/quotes/quot-bot-left.gif

To fence the table so to speak. It is done because of a misunderstanding of this text in 1Cor. 11. Paul here makes it quite clear that the Lord's table is for believers but he doesn't say that we are to examine others but ourselves. Many do not partake of this blessed ordinance because they believe themselves to be unworthy because of sin in their lives. This also is a misunderstanding of the text. Who among us is without sin? The teaching here is that it is to be observed by believers only but that each person must examine themselves whethere they are a believer or not. To partake of the bread and wine not discerning the Lord's body is to take it in unbelief and that is why we bring judgement on ourselves. Honestly the only ones who are worthy to partake are sinners who recognize that is what they are and in need of mercy in Christ. It is to look to Him alone and see in His death our salvation. That is how we discern the Lord's body. Examine yourself to see if you are partaking in faith. I hope that helps.

Do you think it is wrong of a pastor to not offer it on a regular basis? In a 12 month span it only being offered once.....is that not enough? Should red flags be put up if a church isn't offering the communion?

How often should we remember Him? I am convinced that we should observe it every week. Only once in a year is reprehensible. I would guess that you don't hear much of Christ either.

actually i reread that and i understand better now, i thought he was saying that one should not partake in communion unless you were blameless, which i new was not true and thats why people were sick because they eat and drank when they should not.....did that make sense? ok i see it will be one of those days....

Many do keep themselves from the Lord's table for just the reason you mentioned. It should not be. The only ones who should not partake are unbelievers. If you know you are a sinner in need of mercy, something only God by the Spirit can truly give you eyes to see, then even if you just at that moment believed and trusted Christ then by all means partake. It is a symbol of how we receive Christ. When we eat the bread and drink the wine it becomes a part of us and shows us how Christ becomes part of us and we are nourished by Him.

Isa 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Isa 40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.
I take these words seriously and am truly thankful that I would be used to for such a purpose. Ron.

What you say is certainly true, but I do believe the Lord's Supper should be a time of solemn reflection on our lives and on our sins and that we take time to confess. I also believe it should be a time of celebration as we await the glorious return of our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Personally I agree, and I wish that my church would also celebrate the eucharist every week. However, there are valid arguments for partaking of the Lord's Supper only once a month. Many people believe that if we receive communion every week, we will begin to forget its meaning, and that doing it once a month causes us to think and reflect on it to a greater extent.

Not that I would be nitpicking. ;) We celebrate in our church every week and it only becomes a ritual if the pastor lets it. A constant reminder is all that is really needed. Those who make it a ritual have a more serious problem. IMHO

Eucharist to a Catholic I heard seems sacred.
I know you aren't nitpicking
As you celebrate with the church as you want to
Those who do make it a ritual all the time
Worship it seems an idol.
