A raffle, fireworks, balloons and a prize valued at $120,000. Wow. I can't imagine going there to struggle with my passions.

Sheesh, nothing like going to Bob Barker's House of Worship for learning how to store your treasures in heaven...

Not to mention, with all those who were affected by Hurricane Katrina, you would think they would be giving the house/money to those in need rather than in want.
"And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ " Matthew 25:40
"Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” Luke 14:12-14

In unrelated news, it seems like this is the big advantage that protestant groups evangelizing in Orthodox lands have -- very deep pockets. Meanwhile, Christ's Church struggles to provide much charitable assistance to people. (I know IOCC does much good, but I doubt it's budget is anywhere close to that of many protestant charities).

Very true... but its not true of all protestant churches. But yes, many protestant churches have attendees in the 5 digits. And some preach the prosperity gospel which gets these ppl to give because it seems very convincing. :)

Why does this not at all surprise me?

Meanwhile, we give TRUTH and some coffee and danishes after our services.
Well, those who are drawn by wealth probably aren't ready for Orthodoxy anyway. Instead of giving houses, motorcycles, and furniture, we represent Christ, who requires us to give up everything for him--kinda the opposite end of the spectrum.
