I know there were at least one St. Christos. But does that mean we name a kid Christos, we are naming him Christ?

I guess so...but that doesn't phase me because I come from a culture where they name a lot of boys Jesus.:)

The name is St. Christophoros. Christos is is just a shortened version of it. Christophoros means "tribute to Christ."

Oh I see. But why do they write it Christos in the Prologue of Ohrid? Is it common for people to Baptize their son with the shortened version?

Prologue of Orchid is a "Lives of the Saints" text isn't it? Show me what you are reffering to. Maybe when they say Christos, it's reffering to Christ.

Here I have the book right beside me. It uses the name when commerating The New Martyr Christos who was Albanian, on November 28 on the new calendar.

I work with a Bulgarian guy named Hristo; it's not short for anything.

I have always thought that Christos was short for Christophoros, but I believe that New Martyr Christos was baptised "Christos" (though it is short for Christophoros), so you could name your baby "Christos" for the New Martyr.

Ask your Priest though.

Christos is a very popular name in Greece, as well as Christina which is the female version.

as far as i know, all Christos men have their "saint" day on Christmas because they are named after Jesus Christ. i have 4 cousins called Christos!

many Christinas have their "saint" day on Christmas also, but i think there is a saint Christina too.

never heard of a saint Christos though...

Chrisostomos is a different name and i've never heard of anyone making it short to Christos.

Chrisostomos = χρυσό + στόμα = gold + mouth
Christos = Χριστός = chrismated (as far as i know)

Christ is not the name of Christ it is a title meaning chrismated. and as far as i remember kings were chrismated in order to take the "chrisma" and become kings.
