I could use a little advice. I need to wrap up a Christmas gift for Presbytera. Usually I wrap Christmas presents in Christian wrapping paper so I have none with Santa's or Snowmen or Snowflakes. Now that I am journeying East I wonder if there is any problem with wrapping a gift in paper with Western looking angels on it or the Wise Men or the Christ Child with Mary and Joseph. I don't want to offend. Thoughts?

Thx,

Rose

I don't think there is a problem...

As you please....I tend to wrap with very Victorian looking angels and Victorian "Father Christmas" paper when I can get 'em...ONE year I actually found icon wrapping paper!!! (But then had the ...gosh, now it will get thrown away!!! thought) But, really, as a Cradle EO, I've never noted wrapping paper beyond "tacky" and "non-tacky" wrapping paper....so whatever pleases you!

On those occasions when you are having second thoughts about appropriateness of your supply - try some Silver or Gold.

You can get some gorgeous holograph type stuff that looks as if it cost a million dollars and it hasn't.

I do my best to keep a roll of each in the house at all times

I have always even as a Protestant hated patterened christmas paper unless it is stripes or abstracts, etc.

But I can assure you that the gift is what will be valued not the paper.

I am given a gift by my Priest and Matuscha each year (we are a small parish, but we are also close too) and if I remember correctly last year the paper had "Santa Claus" on it.

Therefore, I suspect that anything would go.

My paper this year has red, green and gold stripes. But I bought some "paper bags" that were Christmasy to put cookies in and they had red snow men... not my favorite but the price was great. The cookies is what matters not the paper bag in my opinion.

Best to stick with Kwanzaa paper, so as not to offend.

Seriously, we get Christmas cards from priests every year that have Western artwork on them. Orthodox cards are expensive, and I don't think wrapping paper exists, so I wouldn't sweat it.

I'd be wary of icon-looking wrapping paper, since it gets torn apart, stepped on, and thrown out.

How about just a solid color?

One year my sister used the comics from the newspaper to wrap my gift in. :)

One year my sister used the comics from the newspaper to wrap my gift in. :)

When I used to subscribe to the newspaper I used to save the comics and that is what I used too. I have also bought brown paper, like craft paper and used that but found that it is cheaper to buy wrapping paper the week after Christmas and that is what I do.

I am just cheap I guess.
