The Archbishop will be at my parish for a little while. I always want to speak with him when he arrives, but I'm shy and let other people approach him while I keep to myself. What is the proper way to approach and speak with a bishop?

First, welcome to CF & TAW!

This article should help you in addressing the ArchBishop:

Thank you for the welcome and link, Maureen. The article is very informative. We are having Divine Liturgy at 9 AM tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to speak with the Archbishop, since it may not be as crowded as a Sunday.

My first thought was to say: "Well, don't just walk up to him, slap him on the back and say 'Hey Archie, how you doin?' "

But at the same time, I think it is important to realize that he is more approachable than you realize. I find that being respectful but still being warm and friendly is important. I usually approach by asking for a blessing then take it from there.

Nothing informative to add, but great name! Alaska is the best!

Just talk about stuff. When you go up to him, you bow and then kiss his hand when he blesses you. Don't be afraid.

In seeing a Bishop or Archbishop, I would just be myself.

Ufonium,

Are you from Alaska? I went on a cruise there in August and loved it! I would live there if I could.

I guess "Sup, dawg?" would be out of the question then. :D

Ufonium,

Are you from Alaska?

No, Kentucky, the next best thing.

But I think Alaska is great. It is actually a lot like Kentucky, but I get odd looks when I tell folks that.
