Shalom, y'all!

I'm asking this question in different congregational forums to avoid the debate in GT. Please bear with me.

I'm currently trying to understand and find the truth on the issue of eternal security, and I'd like to ask you something.

Does your denom/common faith congregations believe in it? And what scripture do you use to back this up?

Thanks in advance for the responses.

Merry Christmas!

Hi there,
No we don't believe in OSAS.

Here is a good explanation from the people at the WELS

Good Day, All

This is a question that comes up often and have always wondered about from a Lutheran POV. I think Augustine is clear on this issue, did Luther address this in any of his writtings.

Peace to u,

Bill

Let me say this. Yes I believe in Eternal security, but no I don't believe in Once Saved Always Saved. Now this may confuse some people, but bear with me. While we are here on this earth and while we have received our justification by Christ on the cross, we are still sinners and we will still sin. Paul says in Romans that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is life eternal in Christ Jesus. Until we pass on into the next reality which is our eternal home we have the ability to reject Christ.

Realize that we as human beings still retain the desire to be separate from him. That is what Adam did for us. What Christ did for us will enable us to continue in his way and seek forgiveness for those sins as we go along. He paid the price for them and will continue to forgive them, but until we die here we will not know the eternal security you seek.

Jesus said: "If you remain in me and I remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given.

You should pray then that he continues to remain in you and help you to follow him.

My post is un-needed, as the post by Tetzel and Scott is more than an adequate answer.
