Like I've said in the past, I am struggling with my faith (things are looking more clear every day though).
I am curious, what kinds of movies does everyon watch. I'm more interested to know what kind everyone watches when thay are alone, or with their spouse.
I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy (Lord of the Rings for example).
Obviously x-rated films are not an option (I got rid of all of mine by the way), but what abour "R" rated movies? And what about fantasy movies such as Lord of the Rings or Dragonheart?
I hope my questions aren't too off the wall here. But there is alot I'm not sure about, and value everyone's opinions on here as a source of guidence.
Thanks, Troy.

Troy, sweetie,

It's not about keeping "the rules"... that will drive you crazy. It's about walking with the Lord and listening to His voice.

Will you ever make mistakes? Of course... but God isn't waiting for you to foul up so He can ZAP you. He's like a loving parent Who will pick you up everytime you fall.

If you feel that something is interfering with your walk with the Lord, then don't do it... However, the very same thing might or might not interfere with my walk with the Lord.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

Listen to the woman, Troy! It's all about your relationship with God that sets the 'rules'. Sin isn't a report card when you're his so much as it's something that breaks your fellowship with him. And as you grow in that relationship, pray he'll use the Holy Spirit to break your heart when something is pulling you towards sin or you're causing another to stumble in their walk.

This (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=romans%2014;&version=51;) is a link to Romans 14 which is a great help for questions like this ...the weaker/stronger brother chapter. We don't always know in the gray areas who is the weaker and who is the stronger brother. Sometimes we do ...I love art and in a lot of R rated movies, the unclothed body is art to me. I've got a good friend who's single and struggles with sex; she can't watch the same movies and stay detached. I don't feel stronger than her on the whole; this is just an area that doesn't cause problems for me. So in light of Romans 14, I shouldn't suggest watching a movie that I know will bother her.

Pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit and nurture your walk with time in the word, time in prayer, and fellowship with other believers.

God bless!
Laurie

Hey Troy, I'd second what's lready been said here.

But as far as what movies we watch...we do sometimes watch movies that are rated R...but we have two little ones, so we have to wait until they're in bed to do so.

My hubby has a love for scary movies (I HATE them  ), so he watches those...alone, I might add, lol. But we love fantasy type movies...Harry Potter, all of them actually, are a family favorite. My hubby, bless his heart, also tends to love some of the really raunchy comedies...South Park/Family Guy type movies and shows. I admit, as much as I would love to be offended at some of the jokes, I find myself cracking up.

Anyway, I think it's all about you and the Lord and what is presenting a stumbling block in your particular walk with Him. There's no laundry list of what movies are good and what movies are bad...if it were that cut and dried, we'd all be living under the OT law still.

We can't wait to see it. :) My girls are so excited about it...we just finished the book a few months ago (we're now on the last book in the series). With so much planned in the weeks leading up until Christmas, we'll probably wait until after to go see it. I'm very excited, though. :)

I watch whatever (although I steer clear of X rated ones.) I like Sci Fi/Fantasy, Horror, Comedy, Animated, and Action Movies. I very seldom watch romance movies.

I think this falls under the "Christian Liberty" thing. As long as it's not a stumbling block for me or for anyone else, then it's fine. but then in the end you have to make up your own mind what is good for you.

I hope this question didn't sound stupid. I have alot of friends who are Christians, and they are from all different denominations.
I have some that believe that such movies that contain wizards and creatures of the such are considered "demonic", and that all Christians should stay clear of them.
I personally never believed this. I never found myself wanting to conjure up spirits or anything of the likes after having watched them. LOL...I even shed a tear watching the movie Dragonheart (It had a sad ending, and I am a softie).
I've always admired the imagination of the people who come up with such movies, and really enjoy all the special effects.
But becuse I am finding my way back to the Lord, I know that satan is going to be filling me with false truths to prevent this from happeneing.
The last thing I'd like to see is kneeling before Christ on Judgement Day, only to find out that such movies were considered sinful in nature.
I truly believe that the Lord has brought me to CF for a reason. He knows of the warfare in my heart, and know that CF will help to arm me in the battle, so that I will be victorious.
God bless all of you.
Troy.

Troy,

It sounds like you come from a very legalistic background. Sometimes that is harder to break away from that "out-and-out sinfulness" because we think that by keeping certain rules we are doing God a favor.

All He really wants is a relationship with us -- and then He helps everything to fall in place.

God made humans with creative minds -- I'm pretty sure He loves to see what we do with that creativity!

My main beef with the movie industry is when they market movies, not suited for small children, towards small children. The latest "Star Wars" movie is a good example. It was exceptionally violent and it's marketed, completely, towards little kids.

As for "R" rated movies, they contain adult content, you need to decide what will sway you.

------------------------------------------------------------------
If they feel that is interfering with their walk with The Lord, then it's best they refain from those types of movies. I can respect that point of view, even though I disagree with that idea.
Myself, I do NOT like anything scary, raunchy, or violent. It's not so much has to do with a walk with the Lord, they REALLY upset me. I know what's my problem?:(

I can't see a problem at all.:) We are all made differently and part of that has to do with the way that we are wired emotionally. Some people are sensitive about things like that and others are less so.
