I have posted a small tribute to John Wesley (the founder of Methodism) under the title "Wesley's Legacy" on my blog, "The Thoughtful Crab". It can be read at the following URL:

Great tribute, Fish and Bread  I don't have an account at your blog site so am commenting here. :) I didn't realize John Wesley is a Saint of the Episcopal Church - that's pretty awesome!

I've only been officially Methodist for a couple of years, and the more I learn about John Wesley, the more I admire him. He inspires glory to Christ, love for others and growth to sanctification rather than doctrine/dogma/defense. I have an idea (not based on any formal study of his life) that he must have been much like this in person ...not one to seek glory for himself but to give it to Jesus.

If I may quote you? :) ...I particulary liked your development of this thought

Yet, I think the UMC provides a real purpose in the American denominational landscape. We Episcopalians like to talk a lot about being the via media, or middle way, and in many respects we are. Yet, if we were to wall off the nation of the United States in 2005 and survey the Christian landscape, I think we'd find the via media is in fact Methodism.

I actually picked blogspot particularly because they do allow comments from non-members, you just have to click a different little white circle to reply if you don't have a blogger account. :)

John's brother Charles Wesley is as well. John and Charles share a feast day. :)
