I am wondering if anyone knows any good charities that I can support in the form of a gift to someone on my list that has everything. I have heard about people donating money that would have been spent on a gift to charity in the persons name you were to buy for. I like the idea but am not sure where to donate the money. Any ideas?

If I might make a suggestion.
There are a great many charities and groups supporting and caring for homeless people. These are generally well supported at Christmas, but the best gift you could give would be to support one or more of these in January and February when the worst of the winter cold really bites and most people have already given.

Oh oh oh! I know!
I think I know what you are talking about.
Like at KMart they have the Wishing Tree, where you can take a tag off the tree and buy a present for that person, then wrap it up and put it under the tree? I'm not sure about the giving money to get someone else to buy something, but I'm sure you can find many charities to do that through.
Any local church would be able to help you out if you go in and ask if they are doing anything for a charity for Christmas.
I think it's great you want to do this.
St Vincent De Pauls is always an option.

Looking specifically for charities that promote the type of gift giving that I am looking for. I have heard of these and can't remember who told me last year, but they did this and the charity had a card or something that they gave you as a receipt that you gave as the gift. It stated that the gift was given in honor of them for Christmas.

You might want to ask the person you are getting the Gift (or making the Donation) what they wish the money to go to.
For Example:
A Friend of maine will not donate to any Chairty in Canada, Because of the inhumane laws they have passed regarding Dogs. (That the goverment can take and kill anyones dog with out notice)
So you might want to run by the individual, where and to what they would like the money to go to.
I am sure many Charities would be willing to send you a "Card" as a thank you note/receipt.
You can make this Request to many small charities, and I am sure they would oblidge you in any means you would desire.

If the recepient is an animal/pet lover:
Humane Society of the United States (www.HSUS.org (http://www.HSUS.org))
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.ASPCA.org (http://www.ASPCA.org))
Gotta look out for the furry creatures too...especially since so many people think it's a good idea to impulsively get an animal as a Christmas gift and so many are later dumped at shelter....(small rant, I apologize...)

lol, i wasn't saying to get an animal but rather to donate to one of those organizations, especially since it sounds like they do have pets and that would be a cause they would support.

I can not stress this enough:
ASK THEM, what they would like to donate to.
I have friends that refuse to donate to the HSUS, because of their links to the PETA, and have heard several horror stories about how they treated the "Rescued" animals during Hurrican Katherna. As well a number of other issues regarding the HSUS.
Please, ASK them, Do not just Donate, Ask them if they have a chosen Chairty, or a specific cause they believe in.
I can not stress this enough.
Just as you would ask "What do you want" please ask "Who do you support"
Please, Ask first.
God Bless
