This is something I have been thinking about since I read a book called the Martyr's song(you should read it)but it got me thinking would you really die for what you believe in?If somebody came up to you and started torturing people around because they are christians or not the "right" denomination, what would you do?Would try to hide?Would you speak up?Are YOU really willing to put your life up for god? This is something I want you to really think about, do not give an awnser you're not sure about, and do not lie tou yourself.
I personally would infact I have but I wasn't killed it scared the guy and he left.

I wouldn't die for the religious institution we call the church or the religion that spawned it. But I would die for the Lord Jesus or my fellow man.

Im absolutely sure without an doubt that I would die for Jesus. I've always had thsi feeling that its going to one day happen, and I dont mind. Because I know that I will be rewarded much greater in Heaven.
We are given a chance (one chance) to make ourselves right with God, is your 50 years of life left more important than the eternity you will be spending in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:55-58"Where,O death,is your victory? Where,O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin,and the power of sin is the law.But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

I'm not going to make any oath or statement that I may not be able to live...or die...up to if it really occurs. Think of Peter and his denials.

Ted Dekker's Martyr's Song is an amazing book. Read his book When Heaven Weeps and you will learn what happens to the soldier Jan.
In answer to your question, I belong to Yeshuah. Whether I live or die, I am His. If He calls me to die for Him, I would rejoice that He would allow me to love Him that way. I am certain that He would give me the courage and the grace to honour Him in a martyr's death.

Hi,
I don't think one knows what one will do until it happens. I would like to say I would die for Christ, but I know that until I'm challenged with it - I don't know what I would do. I have heard the same from pulpits - saying they would hope they would do the right thing and die for Christ, but that they don't know - so that's my answer.

I gotta agree with Kelly on this one. I'd like to think that when it all comes down I will give it all up for my Lord.
But, then again, I did serve four years in the Navy where there was a possibility I would pay the ultimate price for my country.
In my spiritual youth, I have not honestly been challenged, even in a non-violent manner.

When I turned from witchcraft and satanism, the Lord asked me if I would be willing to lay down my life for Him. I said, Yes Lord.
For the stuff that I've been through since I've been a Christian, I'd just about welcome dieing as living another decade. I've wanted to go home for a long time.
The Lord didn't tell me whether I would die through torture or a quick death. I did however ask Him to prepare me for whatever He had in store for me so that I wouldn't turn my back on Him.
I've had fists in my face, guns shot at me, life threats, covens after me, a little bit of everything. I've somehow made it through with my faith in tact. I hope and pray that it remains so.
In the coming years, I fear that many of you will say yes Lord when times are still peaceful, will not be able to say yes Lord when their lives depend upon it. Or when your children's lives are at stake.
I believe, that we shall see who the real Christians are in the very near future. The persecutions have already begun.

That's my answer too. I read DC Talk's "Book of Marytrs" (SP I know, lol) and I can't imagine going through all they went through. I hope I would be that strong in my faith to give my life for Him. And not just give it, but give it gladly. I think that would be the hardest part. All those martyrs who were singing and rejoicing until thier death. Wow. I hope my faith would be that strong.

If the opportunity presented itself for me to die or to deny Christ, I would rather die. But at that moment I would leave it in God's hands as to if I did die or not. I would prefer to go on about His work here in this world and be able to use the incident as a witnessing tool, but again it is in His hands. They are still many family, friends and strangers that need to here The Word.

I have to agree. It's a humbling thought that we share the same tendencies as Peter who even saw and spoke to Christ in the flesh before denying him. Rather than asking oneself if he/she would "die" for Christ, why not consider if you are willing to "live" for Him. How many times do we fall short in the simple tasks and thoughts of daily life. How can we boldly proclaim a willingness to die for someone we were not willing to "live" for in the the first place. I'm guilty.

I think Jesus is preferring to ask "Would you LIVE for me?"
Matt 10:38 And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.
Matt 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].
Luke 9:23 And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].
John 12:26 If anyone serves Me, he must continue to follow Me [to cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying] and wherever I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
I think in the following passage it is plain...If we follow Him we must be willing to follow Him even into death.
Matt 10:21 Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children will take a stand against their parents and will have them put to death.
Matt 10:22 And you will be hated by all for My name's sake, but he who perseveres {and} endures to the end will be saved [from spiritual disease and death in the world to come].
Matt 10:23 When they persecute you in one town [that is, pursue you in a manner that would injure you and cause you to suffer because of your belief], flee to another town; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
Matt 10:24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor is a servant {or} slave above his master.
Matt 10:25 It is sufficient for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant {or} slave like his master. If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebub [master of the dwelling], how much more will they speak evil of those of His household. [II Kings 1:2.]
Matt 10:26 So have no fear of them; for nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, or kept secret that will not become known.
Matt 10:27 What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
Matt 10:28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna).Matt 10:29 Are not two little sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's leave (consent) {and} notice.
Matt 10:30 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Matt 10:31 Fear not, then; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matt 10:32 Therefore, everyone who acknowledges Me before men {and} confesses Me [out of a state of oneness with Me], I will also acknowledge him before My Father Who is in heaven {and} confess [that I am abiding in] him.
Matt 10:33 But whoever denies {and} disowns Me before men, I also will deny {and} disown him before My Father Who is in heaven.
Matt 10:34 Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
Matt 10:35 For I have come to part asunder a man from his father, and a daughter from her mother, and a newly married wife from her mother-in-law--
Matt 10:36 And a man's foes will be they of his own household.
Matt 10:37 He who loves [and takes more pleasure in] father or mother more than [in] Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves [and takes more pleasure in] son or daughter more than [in] Me is not worthy of Me;
Matt 10:38 And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.

Breezy, in your two threads clearly you've attempted to call me out as less Christian than you because I mention that I'm not willing to make a bold and USELESS declaration on some bulletin board.
The truth is, I'd rather not make statements or oaths that I may not live up to. I don't know what would happen if the situation arises and I thank God for the blood covering of Jesus. While we are cut/pasting scriptures...
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' 14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

BINGO!
Busy yourself with living for Christ and abiding in Him and His Word in total obedience. This is the only way in which you will have the strength to pay the ultimate sacrifice in being a martyr for Him!;)

I would have to agree with Kelly on this one.
For my answer, I pray that God would give me the courage to stand and give my life for Him, whether through death or through life-long service. We all die eventually, but the question really is whether or not our lives are faithfully lived out before him. Soli Deo Gloria.
