Can anyone direct me to a well written article discussing this? A writing by Luther would be preferred, but any well written article would be appreciated.
Its not that I don't understand it, I need it for someone else.
Thanks

If you google Heino Kadai and theology on the cross you should be able to find his article which wa republished at his death.
I think it is here http://www.ctsfw.edu/library/files/pb/1115 but my internet connection is slow now and I can't get it to load up

Thanks a bunch. I only have time to read a couple paragraphs right now, but looks real good.

The best explanation I ever read on the Theology of the Cross was in Dr. Richard Eyer's book, Pastoral Care Under the Cross. Maybe your pastor might have a copy of this book?
I did a quick search through "Luther's Works"...there is a Sermon on St. Thomas Day, Ps 19.1, Dec 21 1516, from Book 51 which the introduction suggests:
This sermon contains one of the first detailed expositions of what Luther later called the “theology of the cross” and further developed in the Lectures on Hebrews (1518) and the Heidelberg Disputation (1518). For a discussion of Luther’s theologia crucis, see Philip S. Watson, Let God be God (Philadelphia, 1949), pp. 156–160 and for an analysis of this sermon, see Kiessling, op. cit., pp. 96–97.[/url]

(1999, c1959). Vol. 51: Luther's works, vol. 51 : Sermons I (J. J. Pelikan, H. C. Oswald & H. T. Lehmann, Ed.). Luther's Works. Philadelphia: Fortress Press.
I know you probably would rather have online sources. Have you checked Webber's page of Lutheran theology (http://www.angelfire.com/ny4/djw/lutherantheology.html)?

I'll check these out. I'm a little behind on reading right now, and a tad bit slow too boot.
No, haven't checked Webber's page out yet, but I will.

Jim,
Tetzel and Rose's suggestions are probably better than this one, but I would also point out that in Gene Veith's book The Spirituality of the Cross, he has a section on theology of the cross vs. Theology of Glory, specifically contrasting the two as they appear in modern evangelicalism.
There are also books by Alister Mcgrath and von Loewenich. The von Loewenich book, however, is pretty depressing stuff.

Hey Tetzel,
A technical question: I downloaded that Kadai article, but Acrobat won't let me print it? Is this something CTSFW is doing now? Locking out the ability to print? It's password protected, so there's nothing I can see to do about it...

Yeah, I had the same problem. I was talking to a lab guy at the University and he said that it must have something to do with the file itself. On a postive note, I noticed that later CTSFW publications were printable in PDF format. If you absolutely must print yourself a copy, I'd suggest using the select text button in Adobe Reader and then copying and pasting into a document. Your pagination won't be correct but you can print a hard copy. Additionally, it is possible to save the file on your computer so that you can read it even when not connected to the internet, so having a copy to cite from is possible.

I took the vary laborious route of going to 'full-screen' viewing mode in Adobe, then doing screen-captures ('Print Scrren') and then pasting into a blank MS-Word document. Each page, one by one, but now I have the whole doc in Word, and printable!
And yeah, I've printed other .pdfs from CTSFW before too...I'm wondering if there were deeper copyright issues on this file because the article is a reprint...?
