Quite simply what it takes and what makes me a Christian is the fact That I believe that Jesus is God. That He came and died on the cross for my sins. And that He rose again. That, in my humble opinion, makes one a Christian.

christianity is not just a belief system, it is an entrie concept for life, it not only gives meaning and purpose to life but it also gives us a whole concept of life - it is when we believe that jesus is the son of god and work to make this concept a reality that we become christians - faith & good works makes one a christian without good works faith is dead.

But don't get hung up on this. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit will guide you to your works. It has in my life. There are so many things I do now as completely natural that I would not have done before I found Christ. These are things I do without thinking that did not get done four years ago.
Don't wake up in the morning and ask yourself, "What can I do that will show that I am a Christian today?" Rather wake up and ask God, "Almighty, Holy Father in Heaven, shine Your light through me that others may see Your love in all that I do. Guide me so that I can guide others to You. Amen."
The difference between the two is that you are asking God to show His love through your daily walk with Him. From that point on, you don't even have to think about what you are doing, it just happens.

we should seek the glorification of God that will lead to good works automatically.
The concept for life, is a vital under publicised aspect of christianity, it is a major part of the gospel and must be proclaimed along side our belief system, this I believe will re-ignite the flame of hope and love in the hearts of men, drawing them to christ.

We know the characteristics of a Christian. Being a Christian goes beyond what is outwardly shown. The Pharisees did not understand that. Being a Christian outwardly is only a small part. The inside must be cleaned up first before the outside can become clean. Cleaning the inside up is the job of the Spirit upon repentance of the sinner in Christ as Savior. Then the sinner has the ability to clean up the outward by understanding scripture thru the Spirit since the scriptures are only understood by the Spirit.

"Being a Christian outwardly is only a small part."
being a christian outwardly is vital and is just as much a part of christianity as is our faith in christ and we must not forget that just as we must not forget to let christ cleanse us from within, remember we are called to be the visiable sign of christ in the world, that is our calling, we trust in christ to save our souls, but we also have a calling from God, a vocation, it through the vision of the world that the gospel gives us that we must work for, and that is why we need to be one united body of christ with one vision for the future of the world.

ok, this is my opinon, what makes you a christian is accepting and loving Jesus christ, and you also have to love others and do good works. Jesus is the key to becoming a christian, what you do after becoming a christian is up to you.
I made this post so I can see everyone's different opinions.

If we go and do what we want after becoming a Christian, how can we call ourselves Christians?

Some christians after getting saved sin more because they feel GOD forgives them now.

Yea, they get caught up in that freedom in Christ thing discussed in Galatians 5:13. The problem with that is they only want to believe that because it appeals to the flesh. The purpose of that whole passage was that as a born again believer, we have the freedom to serve God without fear of condemnation when we sin. We have been called to live holy lives (1 Pet. 1:16)

I think a christian is someone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savoir; but, also makes the commitment to love him with all their worth, and to tell others about him. A Christian is someone who is trying to get closer and closer to God. Dont forget that everyone has a mission. A mission God has gave to you for you to fulfill. I'm currently working on it.

How does someone become a Christian? By entering into a personal relationship with God.
John 17:3,"And this is the way to have eternal life—by knowing You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one You sent to earth!"
Becoming a Christian is changing in response to the gospel message. Acts 2:37-38, "These words of Peter's moved them deeply, and they said to him and to the other apostles, 'Brothers, what should we do?' And Peter replied, 'Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit.' "
Becoming a Christian is personal and public.
Romans 10:8-10, "For salvation that comes from trusting Christ—which is what we preach—is already within easy reach of each of us; in fact, it is as near as our own hearts and mouths. For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord, and believe in your own heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in his heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation."
God Bless,

Being a christian means a lot of things, and different things to different people in different places.
To me, it makes more sense to talk about children of God. All those who believ in Him have the right to be called children of God. From God's perspective, it seems to be all about identity and family, but it seems people usually think it has to do with creeds and works.
