I am hoping to visit a Lutheran parish tomorrow for Liturgy. I have both WELS and LCMS parishes 10 miles from me. I will write back about my thoughts and experience after I'm back.

you like pipe organs?
There is a really nice one at a church I sometimes go to in Dallas.....it's a big church and in a pretty well off part of town, so it is pretty impressive....sometimes my pantlegs flap in the wind!.....;)

I see you're Catholic, so it should be familiar to you, if that particular parish still uses the liturgy. Sadly, more of them are discarding it in emulation of their evengelical neighbors. I understand the motivation to want to be more seeker-friendly, but the primary focus should be worship.
When I was at the university, I visited mass with a Catholic friend of mine. She was surprised that I was able to follow along so easily. I told her, "It's almost the same as Lutheran worship!"

One question before I go. Is the dress formal or casual in Lutheran churches? I ask because I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. lol Thanks.

just from my experience in my church.....some wear suits and ties, and some do wear jeans, but I hit the middle with docker type slacks and a shirt without a tie.....a polo type shirt would be fine.......but that is just what I observe in my town.....I think that would be fairly safe

It depends on the church. The church I go to now, its casual. But they accept you as you are whether you wear a suit or jeans and a shirt. The church I went to before, its all dressy.. suits, nice pants and shirt. You might have 300 people staring at you in this one if you come in with jeans on.

Forty-Fifty years ago, our church was almost entirely suits/ties and dresses, as was most of the rest of the country. Now suits and ties and dresses are the exception. Most folks, including myself just wear more casual clothes, nice slacks and shirts but without the ties and coats.
We openly welcome all reguardless of attire. Our only hope is that everyone comes to worship often. :preach:

My church is the same way.
