As a child I went to Mexico with my grandparents on a mission trip.  And in 1994 and 1996 I went to Moscow.  I would love to go back.

In 1995 my parents and I were downtown CLeveland, Ohio my home town:) We were on the field praying with people who wanted to find Jesus and receive him, we must have brought a lot of people to the lord cuz he was everywhere that night! I had a great time and would love to do more than what I did there, and I would love to go out of state:D

Ilo Ilo. :) I went to the Bethlehem Missionary School there, and went to a couple of villages. It's amazing that people could live in areas with no electricity or running water. But their faith was amazing.

I remember the pastor we lived with - her predecessor was raped and murdered by a 15 year old boy only 3 weeks ago - she was only in her early 20s, and she volunteered to replace her even though that boy was never charged and still lived in the area. Amazing. We were there and saw great things. I managed to do some medical work too, which was good.

As children of God each day we live on this earth we are doing missionary work to bring those who are lost into the kingdom of god. So each day no matter where you live.....no mattter how old ....no matter how young....no matter is your speech is good....no matter if your words are not perfect....no matter is your rich or poor..........if you love the father and are talking of his many wonderus works you are doing mission work.

I know what you mean by that bro. There was one time when i was in the province in Luzon there was a major storm and there was no power for two weeks and we had to fetch water from a well everyday

Iloilo is far from where i live (around one day by boat) but i have been there many times too.

Thanks for sharing your experience:)

Every Christian isn't called to foreign missions, but every Christian should struggle with the possibility. This is almost a direct quote from a professor of mine in Bible college who had been a missionary to Iran until he was kicked out. He also used to say, God accepts volunteers, and I agree with that. I surrendered to be a missionary, went to Bible college to be one, and God has directed hubby and I into the ministry, but not on a foreign land (Yet). Another quote by a great pastor: "its easy to turn a train if its moving, but hard to direct it if its sitting still." Which basically means if you surrender your life to God for Him to direct as He sees fit, He will direct you, but if you don't surrender, don't be surprized if you warm a pew, and thats all you ever do for the kingdom.

Also, at the top of the door as you left my former church the sign said: "Entering the Mission Field".

I was born a missionary. I mean, I was born and raised in Israel, and our sole purpose there was to be "lights" which can be "a passive missionary" as oppose to an active one where you actually go out on the streets and start preaching. When your childhood home is your mission field, then every other place you move to is a missionary field - France, America...
So theoretically you are all also on missionary trips right now.

One short term trip with Jack Hayford to Israel last December to pray at altars we set up for the boundaries of Israel! Fantastic experience to be with strong Christians 24/7 and I long to do it again! My sis-in-law envisions me in missions work in Jerusalem - I am praying currently about it and hope she's right! Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem!

I have been 3 times for month long solo summer missions to Nepal. I am planning and hoping to link up this summer with an established missionary in Tibet this summer '04 and do friendship evangelism and other service to Tibetan Kham. I work through Missions to Unreached People.

Please pray that my involvement in summer '04 trip to Tibet is God's Will and the details workout, and that it will be very fruitful in God's eyes.

Please also pray that my kids will change their minds and hearts towards living permanently in Tibet, which is my calling from God. And finally please pray that I learn either Chinese or Tibetan well enough to be useful.

Thank you.

I just want to say that as a sailor, I considered myself a missionary because I got to share the Gospel with many other sailors from around the world. So, even if you have never left home, you are STILL a missionary! Be one where you are! You can share the Gospel with people in your own city.

I have heart for missions.
As a teenager I remember loving reading the missions books at the Nazarene church.
I now support some Wycliffe missionaries.
I have visited the Wycliffe location in Texas. Great museum.
Very inspirational.

I believe missionaries are some of the strongest people in the world.
Never knowing what they may face.
I also have a Nigerian friend who goes back to his country to minister.

I've done "silent" mission work on my way to the biker rallies. There I've given my testimonies more than once. It's so amazing feeling to find my self to give my testimony in the middle of the night to a bad looking biker guy. :holy:

I'm going to join to Missionschool ("pre school", which preparte to the real Mission school) in the following autumn. My family is going to leave to Mission work, if its will of God. We should to stay there for 2 periods (one period is about 4 years). Such a long time. Let's see how things goes on.

I voted here about a year ago saying that I haven't been on a mission trip yet but I want to go on one.

Well I can now change my vote to "I have once and would like to go again." :)

Last July I went with two of my friends to Montana state. We stayed on an Indian reservation and did community service projects with my Pastor, a Pastor in training, and his wife.

I hope to go back there again sometime. It was a great experience. I just didn't like having to fly from PA to Montana.. That wasn't a whole lot of fun for a person who does not like to fly.. :(

But the trip itself was wonderful and very moving. :)

I have heard of one (American) family who wrote on a piece of paper & hung it over their exterior door: "you are now entering the mission field". By that standard, every Christian is an ambassador of Christ whether you live in such a way that acknowledges that or not.

I would agree with this. I grew up as an MK (missionary's kid). When I talk with people who "want" to be missionaries, my first question is what kind of missionary they are in their daily lives. If you don't witness here at home, if you don't minister to others around you, what makes you think you can do it when you get to a new country? After you've lived there a while, it becomes home. If you can't witness at "home"... how will you witness when your mission-field becomes home?

I have been to Honduras and will return every Spring Break until I graduate. Fall of 2006 I am to go to Guatamala for a semester-- not really a mission trip, but I plan on doing some missionary-related things while there. After I graduate, though, I am going to move to either Honduras or Guatamala to live. I want to work with their orphans. Perhaps I will eventually found a community of Carmelites to carry on my work. We'll see. :)

I would 100% agree! On a similar topic, I was going to say that I've been on a few "mission trips" to the "developing" world. And, although I do think that it is important for us in North America and other well-off places to experience the way of life there, some of the most exciting "mission trips" I've taken have been right here, within my own country, in my own backyard.

Once a year I take a group of teens from my church to a near by city to do nothing but serve God by serving the people of that city. We do everything from volunteering at local outreaches to giving free labour to farmers during harvest. And as we serve God in a city that isn't so different from our own, we realize that "missions" isn't about the trip. It's about my life.

this past summer i went on my first mission trip down to mexico. my experience was unique in the fact that while i was down there, i contracted typhiod fever and almost died when i got back home. i am still feeling the effects of it now. i am losing my hair because of it, and i lost a lot of brain cells because of all of the fevers, which makes it hard to finish going to university to get my degree. but even though i have suffered a great deal from something that happened while on my mission trip, i still look at it from the standpoint that it changed my life so much for the better. it brought me closer to my catholic boyfriend which has brought me closer to accepting god into my life. without becoming so close to death, i don't know how i would have found the strength to change my life for the better.

I have been on a few mission trips...they were all very good but sometimes they are better than others, I don't know about anyone else but I feel real uncomfortable when I don't know the language because I can't realy communicate with them...I think that's really important to be able to talk to folks.

I went once down to Mexico to help build a house and work with the kids. I'd like to go again and feel the Lord impressing this upon me. I'm just waiting for him to show me the way and give me the go ahead.

i love missions... my heart is tugged there often

I am a missionary! I will continue to please my Lord in everything I do until the day that I die or until the lord takes me home.I believe if your a christian you have to live it,show it and preach it.God Bless

Matthew 28:19-20" Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

1 Timothy 4:13"Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching."

2 Timothy 4:2"Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Philippians 1:18"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."

Luke 6:46-49"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Well you don't. See the previous quote, some do well by example and others fall short. That is just the fact of the matter.

AND KNOWING this will be unpopular, I would like to see the communities PREACHED FIRST. Take care of your community--then by all means support missions. BUT SO MANY at our own door need so much and I feel MOST churches neglect their own but take great Pride in there support of missions...

We have homeless, unsaved people living less than two miles in a State Park from my church, but you can't get them organized to go next door, but they go to Oklahoma every year at least once and support missions abroad. We need to feed the hungry at our own door and NOT step over them so we can pride ourselves good works somewhere else.

Go ye--did not mean skip over as you go.

It wasn't out of the country. It was a mission trip/church camp called MFuge. I went to MFuge Nashville.

I did evangelical work with my church for four years before I moved. I would say we were missionaries to our city and state. We also would drive into VA for visitations. It was an awesome time of worship, praise, teaching, invitation and fellowship. I learned alot about other people.

I voted for the 2nd choice, although I have been on 2 mission trips - both were to Belize (in Central America). Our church goes almost every year. I think it would be really neat to do a mission trip within the States.
