Believe it or not, the only thing my parents ever taught me about sex is "don't do it." I like to think that I turned out fine. I'm not saying that all parents should be as cursory as mine, since all kids are different. I suppose I'm just trying to say that for the most part, mom and dad usually know best, and I wish the school system would recognize that.

Certainly not! Christians are supposed to protest without swagger. It would probably be better to express your disapproval in sex ed class (if they teach ungodly things). And remember to do so in a very humble way.

And yet they want to blame the parents when the kids get pregnant at 16 and babies are having babies. There was no sex-ed at my school, If you didnt learn about it at home then you didnt learn. This might explain why the teen precnancy at my school was almost 45%. They thought it was un-cool to use protection.

My in-laws were so convinced the school was going to take away theirauthority they forbade my husband to take sex ed so they could teach him a Christian perspective. Then they didn't teach him anything. He had to learn about things from his brother and friends.

It doesn't matter what the school teaches, it's my job as parent to set them straight. All kids will face the lies about sex, abortion and birth control, if not from the school, from their unChristian classmates. There is no lie the school can teach my kids that I cannot counter with the light of truth. My children are prepared to fend off the brainwashing of the secular world. Are yours?

This is why we Christians need to protest public schools and send our kids to paraochial school or homeschool them- I refuse to put my kids in public shool. Elementary kids should not be worried about sex ed- usually at that age, they're worried about cooties and are grossed out if a girl touches a boy or vice versa. Is outrage!!!!!!

Christians are supposed to stand up without no doubt.
Stand up to their beliefs regardless of being laughed at.
Because that is what the Lord did despite the insults.
He was right despite others saying otherwise.

I have homeschooled my kids and they have been in public school. I've had my kids come home from school one day and said they knew more than was taught in the class. This is because there is no "Off Limits" subjects in our home. My answers to their questions were always age appropriate and matter-of-fact. If you tell kids what they need to know when they need to know it (this is usually when they ask) they get it.

Uh...I'm not so sure I'd go that far. I think that homeschooling should be a personal conviction. Many Christians do homeschool their children, and I do not judge them for it. Indeed, there is much wisdom in what Mesue says. On the other hand, many good Christians send their children to public school, and these people are also true brethren in the Lord Jesus Christ. As Paul said to the Romans, let us judge to not judge our brethren on non-essential issues, lest we destroy the work of God.

I confess that this statement confuses me a bit. When did teaching our children truth become a "non-essential issue"? My Bible says that I am to bring up my children in the nurture and admonition of the LORD. Perhaps there are public schools that do not teach the dangerous lie of evolution, or "safe sex", or indoctrinate students in the "self-esteem" philosophy, but I am unaware of any in my area. If such a public school existed, I might consider it.
How could I knowingly send my children to be lied to? Do I tell them that some of what they will hear in school is false then leave it to them to sort knowledge from propaganda?
If a Christian brother or sister decides that they can reconcile a public school education with Scripture, then that is between them and the Holy Spirit. If asked (and certainly from the pulpit) I will proclaim God's Word on the subject, and leave the work of conviction to my LORD, but I would never consider such a subject to be non-essential.
In His service,
Razorbuck

My mom told me it was "when a man joins a woman" but that was it... that could be anything! I turned out decent too... I had a grade 5 teacher that was obsessed with sex and talked about it non-stop.

You are right about that.
Schools & teachers don't seem to care at all.
About education and the children.
They are letting the children down IMO.

I used to think that way when I homeschooled my girls.
God is still in control and still bigger than any public school.

Sorry for a late response. Anyway, I was referring to the 14th chapter of Romans. I confess that Paul doesn't actually use the word "non-essential. But I think that is a reasonable assumption based on the fact that he's talking about meat and wine.

As a parent of a 7 year old, I was appalled with this ruling!!!! My daughter is only 7 years old and just these types of questions I feel could emotionally scar a child, and definately put alot of questions in their heads that weren't there to begin with.
I feel bad for the ones of you whose parents did not teach you about sex, but I am going to teach my children when I think they are ready. I do not feel the gov't should have a say in this.
They may feel like they are reaching out to a sexually abused child by asking these questions, but.........if you have ever been sexually abused, especially at these ages 7-10, you will know the shame, and guilty feelings associated with the abuse and in MOST circustances these children will not answer these questions truthfully IMO.

I think the survey was out of line but I fully support educating children about their bodys at a early age and teaching them about birth control and the facts in middle school. In my opinion It's not wise as a parent to just say 'dont have sex' and leave them to find out the hard way the details of sex .In most schools the parents sign a permission slip before the school is allowed to teach sex education to that student.

I agree that children should be taught about sex and their bodies.....The problem I have if I leave it to the school system is:
Will they teach, it is ok to have sex, but ....
You need to use BC because you could have a baby...but
I don't think it is alright for a parent to just say "dont have sex'. I think we should also deal with the emotional issues that come by having sex, and also use the bible to show why it is good to wait. Maybe I'm being naive here, but I seriously doubt the school will teach children the biblical implications of sex. They should also know why God doesn't want them to give themselves to just anybody, and why it is important to wait for marriage. All our kids will have to make their own choices, but as parents we should give them as much knowledge we have on the subject, not just how to protect themselves physically.

Let me start by saying; I don't have kids yet.
Okay, now I can start. :) My hubby and I plan to homeschool our children anyway because of things like this. My parents told me when I was ten what sex was and told me what a menstrual cycle was when I got my first period. My biggest complaint was my mom laughing when I told her I was going to wait until I was married to have sex and then replying, "Oh honey, no one waits anymore".
Both my husband and I were sexually active outside of marriage, so would our kids think we were hypocrites if we told them not to have sex outside of marriage? I know I wish I would have waited, but hubby I think still looks at it as another notch on the ol belt.
Anyone else have this problem?
