Hi

In this story this verse is amazing:

Luke 15: 20So he got up and went to his father.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21"The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.[b (http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php?passage_request=Luke 15#fen-NIV-25602b)]' 22"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. 24For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

You have a daddy who would run along the road for you too.

The attitude of the older brother is interesting too.

It's a wonderful story of how much bigger God's grace is than we realise. For a Jew to work with pigs let alone eat their leftover food was the essence of degradation.

The older brother is interesting. He is so 'good' thathe cannot understand grace. I think there are those raised in a Christian environment who today are just like that elder brother, critical of those who sin, and ignorant of the true depths of God's love and grace.

The story is really about the father's actions, and not necessarily the son's....

I also agree that this scripture is mostly about the father's response...and the sons, they are us; we all sin and fall short of how God would have us be, and need to know that the Father is ready and waiting for our return and has a party in mind. Important to remember when one of our own prodigals is still struggling to come back. Keep that robe and ring ready!
