OK!!

I think we are done adding members for a while. We'll let you all know when we need more.

Thanks for your participation everyone!
********************************************************

We currently have an opening or two. Please submit no more than two items for our consideration. MightyHalo, rgbivens and I will choose the winners, if any. The following criteria must be met for consideration:

1. Must have a post count of at least 500 posts
2. Must be a CF member for at least 3 months
3. Must be able to create transparent images that are 81x180 px
4. Must display ability to create good quality items (subjective)
5. Must display ability to work in a team setting (subjective)
6. Must be able to display knowledge of a graphics program of choice (PhotoShop, Paint Shop, ect...)

In addition, please understand that consistent absence from actively participating in the Team Effort will result in your release from the team.

Create your item/s to fit either the male or female dolls (some items may fit both). Please make sure they are transparent!! This is very important.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We will choose up to three members to join us. We will make our decision either as soon as we have 3 candidates or Nov. 15...whichever comes first.

Thanks, and good luck!

A couple of team members have started out on Paint, but it's not the easiest to use for what we are doing.

Try using GIMP..it's a free download and it allows you to work in layers as well as make items with a transparent background.

I think you may have misunderstood my OP. The offer is not for the first three, but the best three. In fact, we may not take three. We may only take one or two, if any at all. But either wey, we'd love to see what everyone has to offer. :)

what does it mean when selecting a mirror in GIMP, and how do I know which mirror to use??

ravenscape
8th November 2005, 12:39 AM
Mirror? What menu did you find this feature on?

ravenscape
8th November 2005, 12:40 AM
Oh wait! You're talking about what mirror (server) to download GIMP from. Pick one that's geographically close to you. It will take less time to download.

Chopinzee

Are you talking about the download site? If so, "mirrors" are just an identical versions of the same site but in different locations. The purpose is to provide fast download speeds to everyone in the world. Just pick any one, because they are all the same file.

SO, how would you create something in gimp?
THAT is what I would like to know! Where is the instruction manual when you need it!??!

Chopinzee
8th November 2005, 12:58 AM
I would click 'File' and select 'New'.

Then i would set the dimensions to 81 x 180 pixels.

Then i would set the color depth to 256 colors.

Then i would fill the background with a color you're not going to use in your image.

Then i would set the pallete transparency to that color.

Then i would draw the item.

Then i would click 'File' and select 'Save as', choose a directory, type a file name, and click 'OK'.

Antoinette.Marie
8th November 2005, 01:07 AM
Yeah ... I don't think I could do something like that. IT seems so complicated.

ravenscape
8th November 2005, 01:10 AM
Before you begin to draw something, first add a new layer under the layers menu. Otherwise you won't be able to separate the figure from the background.

what do you mean by making stuff transparent? The only transparent I know is see-through and umm that willnt' realy work lol

do u mean like making 2 immages drawing over one immage and then taking the immage u drew over (the outline of the body) away?

Rose D.
8th November 2005, 08:31 PM
do u mean like making 2 immages drawing over one immage and then taking the immage u drew over (the outline of the body) away?

That's part of it. The second part is making the area around the armory image be see-through so that when it's put on top of the doll you can see the doll still.

(What I do, FWIW, is to make the background around the image a color that's different than the rest of the image, then use gifworks.com to make that color transparent. :))

Actually, that comment is on topic. The armory doesn't contain "guns". The only exceptions I can think of are the Star Trek phaser, the Jaffa staff weapon, and the Super Soaker.

Nothing resembling a real bullet-firing gun will be added to the armory. This weapons ban is Erwin's idea, and as far as I know, only Erwin makes exceptions.

Just one possible reason why they might not allow super soakers into the armory along with guns, because it is possible to use them to hurt somebody. But swords, num-chucks, spears, phasers, and dynamite on the other hand...

Atta girl. ;)

What you need to do now is put that on a transparent 81 x 180 canvas so that when it's layered over the body, it looks like the body is wearing it.....But don't include the body with your creation. Make sense? :)

The character space is 81x180 pixels. All the armor layers on top of the character's body. So, when we make the armor item, we use the same size canvas. Here's an example...

Body, Armor item, armor item on top of body...

Yeah, I did that. I got the body, then made the hoody & the pants on top of the body, then erased the body around it for the actual thing.

There's an easier way to do it. Add a layer after you copy the body into your image, and then draw your armor on the layer. Then you delete the lower layer(s), and the body is gone. It's a lot easier than erasing pixels.

Then, be sure and resize your layer to the canvas size if it's not 81x180 to start with, and your piece of armor is good to go!

Send them to me and MightyHalo via PM, if you like, since the OP asks for only two submissions. :)

Has anyone who used serif photo plus and know how to make things transparent on there? I made some items and when I export them I'm not sure that they are transparent once I save them even though there is a black background.

I can't get it to have a transparent background on photoplus so I use this site http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html

Hi, I was just noticed that everyone can make their own armor pieces or is this a contest?

Veiled Viper
20th January 2006, 12:40 PM
It's not a contest. You can submit your attempts at creating armor to be considered for a position on the Armory Design Team.
:)
Consult the 1st post in this thread.

I've never won anything (apart from a video card on a kind of lottery a few years ago ^_^), but when I saw this thread today, I've decided that I'll try to make an armor item... I've never done anything like this before :sorry:

Anyway, this is supposed to be a Sailor Moon outfit... lol! I made it using a male character as a base because I didn't have the female one...

(by the way, has anyone here heard of Saior Moon apart from me? :))

Name: Sailor Moon outfit
Description: Moon crystal power, make up! (<---this is a quote from Sailor Moon)
Category: Armor - Breastplates - Female - Tops/ Dresses
Cost: 1,000 Blessings

By the way, I've noticed a mistake in the Sailor Moon outfit, I improved it a little and I made two other SM items... Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)'s hair style and the Moon Scepter.
