Is the Church rejecting the postmodernists?

(4% of 20 year olds claim to be born-again Christians)

Will the post modernists in a future movement of God reform the church?

This is a huge and important question.

I resist posting lead-in information about the postmodern era; I am interested in your thoughts on this issue.

If you were born before 1960 you are an immigrant in a new era. How do we proceed as an organism so as not to become irrelevant to God purposes for His Church in the postmodern age?

Auntie,

This is a huge subject. Let me give one example and see if this sparks any discussion.

An "era" is different from a "generation".
A generation, or many generations can pass within the same era.
The postmodern era deals with the advent of the computer and the internet.

In the modern era (of which I am a member) we were bookworms and we learned by gaining permission from authority. We learned by programs making slow but sure and steady progress. Our ideas were not considered serious ideas until we made it through the system.

Postmodern era folk learn in "bits" with no need for structure. They tolerate the structure of the modern era but reject it as soon as they gain some power or control over their lives.

This is the root of my question: Many believe they (postmodernists) are not hearing the word of God and for this reason they are not in our churches in large numbers. I reject that idea totally. I believe they reject the structure of our churches just as they reject all structure of this gone era. I believe we are immigrants in the postmodern age and we simply have not realized the truth of that fact.

I hope this helps.

In the above question is the problem the young people are facing the ever changing church, Jesus said " seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;" But this is not what's being offered to our young people, we are so affraid of losing them we are willing to change everthing to keep them in our followships. What needs to be done is to restore the church back to the intent that God designed, in the first century, and the way the apostles left it. Jer.6:16 "Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls."

But they said, We will not walk therein.

This is what we are hearing from some of our young people, and it's because of all the confusion among said beleivers, we are like the fast food chain that saids "have it your way" because this is how we do it. It's time to get back to the bible, we need to preach just like they did then in the first century, we need to live just like they did then, the church need's to be organized just like they were then, call bible things by bible names, worship God in spirit, and in TRUTH! just like they did then, teach people how to obey the gospel just like they did then. If we do it like God design it, we will not have to worry about postmodernism.

Bible,

Thanks for responding. I don't disagree with you on this but we might disagree on what that early chruch was like. I believe they will do exactally as you say, I just don't hold out any hope that we will. This could put us on the outside when God calls them back as i believe He will.

As far as reaching out to them by making changes within the current church structure; I think this is not all bad, at least it is recognizing that something is wrong. God has not chosen to reject the postmodernist, but have we? That is still my question.
