View Full Version : Bible in 90 Days: Day by Day

Some thoughts on the beginning of today's readings:
D7:13; This is a prophecy of the angel Gabriels words to the Virgin Mary as chronicled by Luke the Physician in his Gospel. :)
D8:3; Jesus responded with part of this verse when Satan tempted him with bread during Jesus' forty day fast in the desert. His 40 days in the desert might be analogous in some respect to Israel's 40 years in the desert.

Day 15 the day we finish the torah.
Deuteronomy 24:7 the last sentance from the New Century Version: "You must get rid of the evil anong you" Many are worried about the killings GOD orders and are missing the point. This quote is the point. Paul makes the same point in the first part of 1 Corinthians: Holy Mother Church must excomunicate flagerant sinners!!
Deuteronomy 26:16This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. I love the first 14 verses of chapter 28. We focus so much of the bad but if we will just obey GOD HE will richly bless us!! Deuteronomy 28:1-3 1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. 3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Why was it that we decided we didn't need to keep the laws GOD presented in the torah:confused:

Jesus freed us from the sacrifice stuff and the food laws. I don't know why we don't keep the Sabbath and the Feast Days- that, I think, is an oversite on our parts. Other than that-- THe one thing I've learned from reading the Torah is that our current morality "laws" are MUCH stricter than what God demands so I think we're good there.

Day 16: Joshua 1:1 14:15 My New Century Youth Bible has the following intro to Joshua: Two major themes flow through Joshua. First, the book shows how GOD works through people to fulfill HIS purpose on earth. And it emphasizes the importantce of loyally following GOD, depending on GOD's power in all things.
tricktrivia question: Besides Adam and Eve, which Biblical charactor had no parents? Joshua 1:1 Joshua sone of Nun
The Hebrew name Joshua means YAHWEH saves. and is the Hebrew name of JESUS.
all that is posted cause i'm not overly interested in the wars to obtain the promised land. We will finish this book tommorrow.

The Hebrew name Joshua means YAHWEH saves.
Cool! That is helpful information that will be interesting to ponder as I read through the book of Joshua.
and is the Hebrew name of JESUS.
Interestingly, didn't God himself choose the name Joshua (Jesus) for his Incarnation? Do you all think that had something to do with Joshua, son of Nun?

I was thinking: Joshua led God's people into the promised land and the new Joshua (Jesus) led God's people into the kingdom of heaven! :) Does that sound like a plausible reason for the Messiah to be named after Joshua son of Nun (If in fact he was)?

Good morning JESUS! Help me stay totally centered on you on this the 18th day of our reading the protestant Bible cover to cover. Today the reading is Judges 3:28 -15:12
Judges 5:31So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love YOU be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years. This 12 pages at a time is a bit frustrating cause we finally get to a great story and it is divided over two days. I will save my comments on Sampson until we complete his story tommorrow.

Happy Sabbath!! Day 19: Judges 15:13 ~ 1 Samual 2:29.
Samson the original tragic hero; how stupid can you be? Delilah betrayed him thre3e times and yet he in the end tells her the truth (maybe he was so full of himself that he thought his strength was his and not GODs?)
Ruth ~ what a beautiful little story!! 1 Samuel 2:1 wow today was the most fun read we have had!! When are you all going to catch up?

Wow my New Century translation has a lot different words than the KJV for 2 Kings 4:15:
Ahimaaz was Governer of Naphtali (He was married to Basemath, Solomon's daughter
and i thought the implication was that he was appointed Governer cause he was married to Solomon's daughter.

Well for me at least, it helped me see how everything has progressed. Kinda a reminder of what's gone on...recognising names from previous books jogged my memory and so I was sitting there thinking "Ah yes, that's so-and-so...and this happened to him and then he had so-and-so and that happened...".

I have a long ways to go to catch up as well. I'll probably get more done when I visit the family for the holidays and don't have as much ready access to technological distractions like the Internet. That's not a guarantee, though. I have finely honed my procrastination skills over the years. ;)

most of us found this impossible right?
so i am suggesting we start over, go slower and mix OT and NT so it is more interesting with the hope of doing the complete Bible in one year. I hope you all will join me Here is the planning info:

Is anyone still on pace with the readings at this point? I've got to be honest, I'm still working on day twenty. A lot of things can up in both my faith and my non-faith lives that made it difficult for me to retain my focus on staying with things. It appears similar things must have happened to most of the rest of the group we started with!
I do think I'm getting something out of it still, though. I get a better sense of biblical context, for one thing, and I do ultimately think that I'm going to finish the thing (Just way later than the 90 days I originally intended). I've also memorized the names of the first 10 books of the bible. ;) The large-print, large pages, and day divisions are also still really helpful, even when I'm not doing a "day per day". I know this sounds odd, but the bible can be thick sledding for me, and literally the layout and the divisions helps -- I feel like I'm making progress and don't have to deal with as much eye strain and so forth. Sometimes just the sheer weight of a standard bible due to small pages can be intimidating. This looks more like a hardcover novel. :)
Where are you all at with this? For those who have, like me, fallen behind, do you still go back to it when you can and plan on finishing eventually? Have you given up completely? Or are you still, miraculously, on pace? :) Everyone, those who are on-pace, those who are behind, and those who have given up: What, if anything, do you feel you've gained from the experience so far?

Well, I think I got the answer to my question. That page has been removed. I already have a Large Print NIV Thinline bible. But in order to get this reading plan, you have to buy ANOTHER BIBLE. I saw it in the store, and it is based on 12 pgs a day, so I will just figure it out myself. Thanks.

I first saw the ad for the book `READ THE BIBLE IN 90 DAYS' last month - at least that is when it first registered - even though it's copyright is 1996! ...in recent years I have been trying to read a different version each year (got bogged down in '04 w/a NKJ Daily Devotional & didn't get past summer, '05 didn't even pretend to start a daily program) so I got real excited about this. I like the format because more pages is not as choppy as a chapter or two in different sections. My favorite was the NIV Chronological, then came The Message. I use discs to help my thoughts stay on track: `it is rude to not listen when someone is talking to you' - and it does help!! I found this site last night - I hope all of you who joined up at the beginning of your thread are still hanging in there, not being discouraged by `getting behind.' ..even a chapter a day keeps you in the Word. Please keep at it - My Blessings on each of you!!

Just a question - is this discussion for those who all started on the same day, or can someone just starting up join in? I've done this before, but I'm doing it again under a different user name. Normally I wouldn't start something like this up again shortly after finishing it, but I really feel the need to go through this again.
Just thought I'd ask. :)
