Yea. me too.
I did know as it hapens, but I don't think that many people do.
I expected the 'industry' to make far more of it than they have.
Just spotted a trailer for a 400 anniversary documentary - BBC2 9pm Friday.

Can't stand any soaps. (Actually, I used to watch Brookside a long time ago) :sorry:

Eastenders has been pants for a while...
Corrie, I used to watch when I was a teenager (pre EE days), but I'm not up for it now.
Emmerdale - never seen since they dropped the farm and went for the outrageous plots.
The only drama/soap I watch is Holby City - and it's on tonight, yeah!

Oh, higgs2, and I had such a high opinion of you before knowing this! ;) (the part about "Desperate Housewives", especially!)
Sorry to go on about the English television programmes, but just wanted to tell Dogsbody and Andy that there is a programme on TONIGHT about the 5th November 1605, called "The Gunpowder Plot - Exploding the Legend", on ITV1 at 9:45pm.
Higgs2, the story of 5th November here in England is (from what I can remember) there was a man called Guy Fawkes (a Roman Catholic) who plotted to set fire to the Houses of Parliament in 1605 because (?) he disagreed with the reformation (?), and he was caught and burnt at the stake? or did he simply die in the fire that he had set? I can't remember. Someone enlighten higgs2, I obviously need to watch the programme! :)
Anyway, every 5th November, we all have huge fireworks and bonfires and food and it's pretty fun.

I think that history says that once the Gunpowder Plot was foiled and it was announced that the king was safe, bonfires were lit all over the country in celebration.
The thing about throwing a guy on the bonfire came later. Guy Fawkes was not actually thrown onto a bonfire, but he was tortured in the Tower of London so that he would give up the names of his co-conspirators.

I have actually been a faithful viewer of the Gilmore Girls for a couple years now. It's not my fault, though! I was visiting my sister in her dorm for a few days and she force-fed me Gilmore Girls tapes until I got hooked. ;) It's like crack, that show. ;) I scared the heck of of Lel last week when I was watching the trailer for the upcoming episodes and screamed out "Jess is back!". :) In defense of my masculinity, however, I should mention that I spent many hours last night watching football and wrestling.
I also watch "Boston Legal". Any show that features the actors who played Captain Kirk and Odo is hard for me to pass up. I just discovered that one fairly recently, though, so I don't know a whole lot about it. I like the show's sense of humor.
"Commander in Chief", I've only seen bits and pieces of. It looks like a neat show, but I can't say I'm a regular viewer. They should move it to Thursday when I have nothing to watch. :) On Tuesdays, it's too tempting to take the hour between Gilmore Girls and Boston Legal use it to do something productive. ;)

But Karen I *am* a desperate housewife! :D I joke about that with my kids. It gets worse... my priest is the one who got me watching DH in the first place! There is a lot of redemption and grace to be found in that show (in between all the naughty bits).

"Ferry Across The Mersey"
Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'cause this land's the place I love
and here I'll stay
People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
and always take me there
The place I love
People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away
So I'll continue to say
Here I always will stay
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'cause this land's the place I love
and here I'll stay
and here I'll stay
Here I'll stay

We are about to go out to a church bonfire/fireworks party - and I haven't had to cook for it!
We had ours last night, in the Rectory garden. The Rector decided not to light the 12-foot high bonfire because there were too many young kids there and it was windy. It was a fun evening anyway.

do any of you pray morning and evening prayer from the prayer book daily? I lived in a Episcopal Rectory for about a year; discerning weather GOD wanted me to be a Episcopal Priest. During that time i prayed Morning and Evening Prayer daily with the priests. We started each day with a better translation of Psalm 95 than this but this one is good also. It is the New Living Translation:
Psalm 95
1
Come, let us sing to the LORD!
Let us give a joyous shout to the rock of our salvation!
2
Let us come before him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing him psalms of praise.
3
For the LORD is a great God,
the great King above all gods.
4
He owns the depths of the earth,
and even the mightiest mountains are his.
5
The sea belongs to him, for he made it.
His hands formed the dry land, too.
6
Come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the LORD our maker,
7 for he is our God.
We are the people he watches over,
the sheep under his care.
Oh, that you would listen to his voice today!
8
The LORD says, "Don't harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah,
as they did at Massah in the wilderness.
9
For there your ancestors tried my patience;
they courted my wrath though they had seen my many miracles.
10
For forty years I was angry with them, and I said,
`They are a people whose hearts turn away from me.
They refuse to do what I tell them.' 11
So in my anger I made a vow:
`They will never enter my place of rest.' "

Sgt Pepper.
It was twenty years ago today,
Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play,
they've been going in and out of style,
but they're guaranteed to raise the smile.
So may I introduce to you,
the act you've known for all these years,
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
We're Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,

It's wonderful to be here,
it's certainly a thrill,
you're such a lovely audience,
we'd like to take you home with us, we'd love to take you home.
I don't really want to stop the show,
but I thought you might like to know,
that the singer's going to sing a song
and he wants you all to sing along.
So let me introduce to you,
the one and only Billy Shears,
and Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

We're Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
we hope you have enjoyed the show,

1. Here, there and everywhere - from 'Revolver'
2. Sgt Peppers lonely hearts club band - from album of same name
3. Twist and shout - from 'Please Please Me', but prefer the Hamburg live version
We had a friend sing "Here, There and Everywhere" at our wedding. :)

Do you mean 'All my loving'?
Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you,
Tomorrow I’ll miss you;
Remember I’ll always be true.
And then while I’m away,
I’ll write home ev’ry day,
And I’ll send all my loving to you.
I’ll pretend that I’m kissing
The lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true.
And then while I’m away,
I’ll write home ev’ry day,
And I’ll send all my loving to you.
All my loving I will send to you.
All my loving, darling I’ll be true.

Wonderful song.:)
To lead a better life I need my love to be here...
Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there
There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there
I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
To be there and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere

Another one of my favourites by probably my favourite Beatle...
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold you love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you
I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at you all
Still my guitar gently weeps
Oh, oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin’ love was just for fun
Those days are gone
Livin’ alone
I think of all the friends I’ve known
But when I dial the telephone
Nobody’s home
All by myself
Don’t wanna be
All by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t wanna live
All by myself anymore
Hard to be sure
Some times I feel so insecure
And love so distant and obscure
Remains the cure
All by myself
Don’t wanna be
All by myself anymore
All by myself
Don’t wanna live
All by myself anymore

I'll bet Andy is asleep now, after working all night.

I was sleeping, but I have a hard time going back to sleep when I wake up, so I usually get up for a while. It's almost 3 am. Of course, baby wakes up too when I'm away so she's sleeping on my shoulder.

What does GOD have you doing for HIM?
GOD keeps me busy. One of the things HE has me doing is encouraging others to get and stay close to HIM.
Another ministry that keeps me very busy in Nov and the first two weeks of Dec. is sending out Christian Christmas cards. Durring Novermber i address and write Christmas cards. I mail them all out the Monday After Advent 1 Sunday. i mail out at least 100 cards every year. I send Christmas Cards to at least 50 people in prison each year. So for the next 6 weeks i'll be here a lot less cause i am very busy preparing Christmas cards to encourage people to have a good Advent and a blessed Christmas.
Please pray for me and for all who recieve Christmas Cards from me. If there are any out there who would like to send Christmas cards to inmates please PM me.

I'm having a hard time getting through Leviticus! Reading out loud helps, I read the "mildew regulations" to my husband and he *loved* it :P We are going to take a garment with suspected mildew to our priest and request that he isolate it for a week and then follow all the mildew rules.

Well, read them Leviticus 14:33 - 57!
Are there greenish or reddish depressions that appear to be deeper than the surface of the wall? Then the priest needs to close it up and inspect it in 7 days. If the spots have spread they'll need to replaster. Then (and this is the best part) if it hasn't spread after the house has been plastered all they need to do is to kill a bird over fresh water in a clay pot, dip a live bird, scarlet yarn, cedar wood, and hyssop into the blood and fresh water, and then sprinkle the house (or church) seven times. THen release the live bird in the open fields outside the town.
If it does spread after plastering, they'll need to tear it down.
:D
Seriously, mold is a terrible health problem, I feel for your parents, this would be an hard thing for a church to have to deal with.
