I'm having a hard time getting through Leviticus! Reading out loud helps, I read the "mildew regulations" to my husband and he *loved* it :P We are going to take a garment with suspected mildew to our priest and request that he isolate it for a week and then follow all the mildew rules.
If you two do that, you *have* to take a camera with you! :) I want to see the look on the priest's face when you present the garmet to him/her. :)

I agree with what everyone here has said -- Lonnie's prision ministry sounds awesome! :) Though I'm just some prisioners are dismissive of the cards, for others I am sure it makes their Christmas! Spending Christmas behind bars without the benefit of good food or family and friends must be really hard on folks. Granted, they've committed crimes and should be punished (Presuming they weren't improperly convicted -- and it is worth remembering that there are likely a few innocents behind bars!), but they're still human beings. There are those who have repented of their sins and some who are fairly non-violent (i.e. drug offenders, embezzlers, that sort of thing). They should still do their time, of course, but I think it's wonderful that people are willing to send Christmas cards to them to brighten their day a little bit! In Lonnie's shoes, I probably wouldn't include a return address or sign with my full name, though.... :)

Just been in Cyber corps and had some bad news.
Abiel, our mod has just lost her father.
She has been a good friend to many people, both in Cyber corps and elsewhere.
Please could I ask for you all to keep Tracy and her family in your prayers at this time.
Thank you.
BTW. For any who know Tracy, I have started a thread of condolance in Cybercorps

Hey Andy,
I checked out the comments you referenced. It doesn't appear as though we have the same political views. Nevertheless, though, I emphasize with your frustration with the actions (or in this case non-actions) of your government in the sense that I am often frustrated with the actions of my government, particularly with those of the present administration! :)

1 God save our gracious King,
Long live our noble King,
God save the King:
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the King.
2 O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter his enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On thee our hopes we fix:
God save the King.
3 Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may he reign:
May he defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the King.
4 Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world ov'er.
5 From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the King!
O'er his thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our father, prince, and friend,
God save the King!
6 Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!
Yes, I'm sucking up for ice cream, root beer, and onion rings. What of it? ;)

Not many Brits know all the verses.....I'm impressed.
Fish and Bread
11th November 2005, 04:40 PM
Now, the US version, sung to the very same tune, but retitled, "My Country Tis of Thee" :):
1. My Country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrim's pride,
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring.
2. My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.
[No more shall tyrants here
With haughty steps appear
And soldier bands.
No more shall tyrants dread
Above the patriot dead;
No more our blood be shed
By alien hands.]*
3. Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song.
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
4. Our fathers' God, to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!
*Aprocryphal verse, crossed out in the original manuscript and only rarely sung.

Parochial Church Council. We make decisions alongside the Rector about lots of different types of issues to do with the church. Your king offers this grace to the first one who can beat both the following puzzles:

http://www.transience.com.au/pearl2.html
Those who've played before are unable to participate, but could win such indulgence by composing a 5,000 page essay on how the one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple peopleeater is the root of all evil, with Biblical support :)*
*In other words, you're out of luck; sorry! :(

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my stomach will alright my Thanksgiving. I'm in charge of cooking all of the food and eating a large quantity of it. ;) Unfortunately, for the last maybe day and a half, I've had a lot of chest pains, shortness of breath, and some other stuff. Of course, I immediately thought that it could be a cardiac problem, but I called a relative of mine who is a medical doctor and he said given my age (23) and the fact that I'm burping a lot, it is probably just really severe heartburn combined with some chronic health problems I have. That was a relief, but I'd still like to be a little bit more mobile and have a little bit more of an appetite in time for turkey day! :)

Thanks! It's kind of been coming and going. I'm drinking and swallowing a lot of antiacid medications and trying to cut down on sodium and so forth. It's harder than one would think when you're on a budget! Plain oatmeal made straight from the oats seems best, but I do sometimes like to eat other things as well. ;)
The Ravens beat their archrivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers today, in overtime, which cheered me up quite a bit. :) It's always great to watch the Ravens achieve a victory, and usually even better for it come against the Steelers, but particularly this year, when the Ravens have played very poorly (With the win, we're 3-7) and the Steelers have played very well (With the loss, they're 7-3), there was a particular element joy for me. :) I was also glad I was able to watch it -- the only way to view it was at a dining establishment with the NFL Sunday Ticket satelite package and I was feeling so under the weather, it was really iffy on if I could make it (But I will not be stopped -- I've *never* missed a game in 10 years, even when I almost died about half a decade ago). I drug Lel with me today just in case I needed someone to drive or whatever. :)

The Thanksgiving meal will begins now. The turkey has been provided. Please bring two dishes/deserts.
Who wants to say a thanksgiving prayer? Then we will sing "Now thank we all our God". :)May I suggest for the prayer that we all post what we are thankful for? Just hook your prayer onto the previous prayer-post, and then when there's no-one left to contribute, we can all say AMEN. I'll start:
:crossrc:
Heavenly Father,
We thank you that we have been brought together in fellowship through Christian Forums, and we pray that through this forum we may bless each other and be blessed by you. In this, our Thanksgiving meal together, we would like to each thank you for those things which have special meaning for us -
I thank you, Father, for the beauty and rich variety of the seasons, in which there is a time for everything.

Almighty and Eternal Father, we thank you for everything you have given us. For the joy of your presence, and for the joy of human love. We thank you for all your creation, that you have given us for our use. We thank and praise you most, Eternal God for the gift of your only begotten Son. May we be ever thankful in our hearts, our soul, and our mind of all your gifts. May we remember the less fortunate this year Lord, to aid them in any way we can. We pray that you will use each one of us for your purpose to the glory of your Holy Name.

What has happened to STR? Seems like no one has been around for days!
Maybe it's because it's Thanksgiving?
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Americans!!! :)

Yay! Hi Andy!
I thought there might be a few Brits about, since all of the Americans are probably busy eating.
What's up? How are things? Is it snowing where you are? We had a few sleet flurries here earlier, but now it is just very windy and too cold!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! My turkey is in the oven as we speak.
Do you still celebrate Thanksgiving while abroad, Karen? I'm the stubborn sort, so I could imagine taking the day off, preparing a Thanksgiving meal (Including turkey and sauerkraut), listening to Alice's Restaurant, and watching football -- even were I residing in Europe. :)

JohnHi John! Happy Thanksgiving!
For the first five years or so after I moved here, my mother-in-law would prepare a turkey dinner for my husband and I (because I didn't get the day off work as most Americans do, so I couldn't prepare the turkey dinner myself). I thought that was really nice, and she did it to help me not feel so far away from home, but to be honest, it wasn't the same as being over there. So, after a few years, I told her not to do it anymore! (in a nice way).
I have NEVER had sauerkraut at Thanksgiving! But I would give it a try.... :)
I did used to listen to Alice's Restaurant, though!

"You should!" he says as part of his neverending campaign to make sauerkraut a mandatory and universal part of the Thanksgiving meal.... ;)
I did used to listen to Alice's Restaurant, though!
I introduced Lel to it a little bit earlier in the day. She liked it a lot, though I think she felt that playing it 3 1/2 times was a little excessive given that it's nearly 20 minutes long. ;) I listen to it every Thanksgiving, and only on Thanksgiving. I love traditions! :)

Nothing in the Humber Estury area yet, but forecast.
Spoke to Mel aealier and she said it was at freezing point in the vale of York where she is.
Of course, first flurry of snow and the country will grind to a halt as always:D

But there's a big difference between *having* the stuff, and *getting* the stuff. Really, it *is* much less common to have snow falling at -30 or less than at -15. Those bitter-cold days are usually bright and clear and come *after* a snowfall that occurred at a much warmer temperature.
On the gripping hand, making that claim at balmy -15 temperatures is indeed somewhat spurious.

The Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.
Let's hear it for those 'Leafs, eh.
Just in case you though hockey was the only game in Canada, tomorrow is the biggest sporting event of the year: the Grey Cup. People will have booked Grey Cup parties around the game months ago; women will have purchased new formalwear for the parties; church attendance will be spotty despite its being Advent Sunday (more commonly known as Grey Cup Sunday in Canada) and preachers will either have the unhappy look of a man who wishes he was at home watching the game; or the distracted look of a man trying to preach while listening to the game on an ear-bug. Though that won't be as much of a problem this year, since Vancouver is hosting the game, which puts it in our western-most timezone and everybody should be able to get home in time to see the start.
Now, here's the payoff question (Canadians and higgs are barred from answering of course): What game is being played?

Now, here's the payoff question (Canadians and higgs are barred from answering of course): What game is being played?
Canadian football, of course. :) Granted, my father and I were season ticket holders for the Baltimore CFL Colts (The name was eventually changed to "Baltimore CFL" and then "Baltimore Stallions" due to a lawsuit brought by the NFL and the Indianapolis Colts), which made it to the Grey Cup and lost in their inargural season in 1994 and then won the Gray Cup in 1995 before departing and becoming the new incarnation of the Montreal Alouettes due to the arrival of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, so I *may* have had a slight advantage over my fellow United States folks in answering your question. ;)
I loved the Candian game. Three downs, 110 yard field, 12 men to a side, a field goal post at the front of the endzone, and, of course, the all important rouge (i.e. a single point awarded to the kicking team when a kick into the endzone is not brought out by the returning team). It's just not the same watching games where there is no 55 yard line. ;) I can remember signs during the last home game or two at Memorial Stadium from disappointed Stallions fans who suspected it would be their last year for the team in Baltimore that made fun of the NFL: "4 downs are for sissies". :) There are a lot of good stories related to that team, even though it only played for two years. We get to see a lot of CFL Hall of Famers, most notably Mike Pringle for our hometown team, and Doug Flutie, who visited as a Calgary Stampeder (And kicked our rear-ends all over the field).
The Stallions are to this day the only team from outside of Canada to win a Grey Cup and will probably be the only team from outside of Canada to *ever* win a Grey Cup, since there are no more teams outside of Canada. :) That's something I can be proud of, even though the team itself is gone. Don't get me wrong, I was excited about the Ravens coming here, have never missed seeing a Ravens game (Though I've had to only watch on TV having moved to Arizona), and wouldn't trade them for the world, but having a CFL team here was a great experience as well. It's a really exciting brand of football!

No my nickname is because of my love for mythological characters. During my divorce to my previous husband...*kinda going through an annulment with the new one* :sigh: but I digress, I did alot of research and I loved the story of Cassiopeia and how she came to sit upon her throne as punishment for her misdeeds. When I traveled to South Africa for the first time, my son who was 11 at the time wanted me to look for the constellation when I got lonely and to think of him and he would do the same. You see, Cassiopeia can be seen in both Hemispheres all year long. I deliberatly misspell it to keep people from thinking of me as vain but alas..it hasn't helped *giggle*
