Hey just a question.... mainly for the charasmatic people :) What does the "annointing" and/or "presence" of the Holy Spirit feel like? Is it different for different people? And like... ok for me... sometimes I get something similar to chills on the back of my head and upper back when listening to worship CD's or sermons or I read something. But I can't tell really if it's special or if I'm just cold and feeling a draft. Sometimes i can tell a difference, but I'm never really sure. Any thoughts?

Holy Spirit to me has different feelings.
Sometimes its clean buzz, other times its a powerfull tears of joy emotion.
When God talks to me its through the Holy Spirit, and sometimes when He talks to me I don't feel anything different.
I have even felt righteous anger through the Holy Spirit, like this one time when I saw this lady picking on a Christian sister. Anger started to stir, and I said to myself, next time and I say something. A next time didn't come, cause the sister stood up for herself.
So for me, feelings of the Holy Spirit runs the gauntlet, except for fear. I can't think of a situation of fear by the Holy Spirit.

Hi sbbqb7n16,
just a few thoughts on feeling. In Acts 5:32 we are told that the "Holy Spirit is given to those [who obey God]". So these must be the ones that are converted, right? (No submission to obedience, no conversion)
But this question deserves more thought than just that. The bottom line is that one now becomes converted or 'born again' at this point of submission to the Master. It is then that we have a new heart, that of LOVE for His will  (see 2 Cor. 3:3.)
So my friend, for the question of how one feels after this takes place is a vital question! Does AGAPE LOVE FEEL? Or, a Godly PRINCIPLE?? Or are the results of LOVE what causes feeling? Emotion? Excitment? And do not the non/christians also feel, have emotion, excitment? Yet, we are told that the the Holy Spirit is [only] given to them that OBEY Him! Upon surrender of our will! (again Acts 5:32)
So the 'bottom line' is perhaps, does how we feel, always have a bearing upon our relationship with the Master? Or is TRUE AGAPE LOVE A [LOVING PRINCIPLE] of [OBEDIENCE]?
I suspect (prayerfully) that 'some' would not place place too much emphasis in the 'feeling' part of Agape Love? Or some on Christian forums might be accursed falsely of 'flaming', when the motive is truely one of love.
Case in point:
When the Master was dying on the cross, did He feel good? Was He excited? No, He was 'feeling' [both inwardly & outwardly] miserable! (and inside His heart? Read Matt. 23) And He cried.. "My God, My God, why hath thou forsakeneth me"
Perhaps we some times put way too much stock in our emotional traits? While the real testing of our relationship with the Lord, should be as His! He died feeling miserable, while
the TOTAL AGAPE LOVE PRINCIPLE of His life, was OBEDIENCE TO HIS FATHER'S WILL even in death!
Do we ever question if Christ was filled wth the Holy Spirit?
So in closing, I know that your question asked about the results of mans emotions. But I just thought that these verses of 1 Cor. 13:1-13 might be studied with your qestions? And verse 1-2 ibide.?
"Though I [speak with the tongues of men and of angels,] and have [not charity], I am become as [sounding brass, and tinkling cymbal].
And though I have the [gift] of prophecy, and [understand all mysteries, and have all knowledge, so that I could move mountains], and [have not charity, I am nothing.]"
CHARITY, IS AGAPE LOVE! THIS LOVE IS A [PRINCIPLE.]
P/N/B/
PS: All of these ones will be seen in Eze. 9's closing work! A very hard work
to do because of adverse [feelings!] Try Matt. 10:25's word of Beelzebub! Yet, in verse 20 you will [see] who it is that [has the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you].

A clean buzz is a high, but it doesn't have any of the bad side effects as other drugs.
Like smoking pot gets you high, but your thoughts are scrambled.
When I pray, alot of times I start to feel floaty. I feel like I am a giant, and that I am growing. Now this doesn't happen most of the time, usually when I get with other strong Christians.
And unlike any drug, when I come down, I feel ok or not sleepy or dopey. I feel very good actually.

It's awesome.
But what you are feeling might just be an emotional response to the music. I get the same feeling when listening to great music like opera or Beethoven's Ninth.
God's presence is more like an overwhelming comfort and love, like being hugged by an awesome cosmic teddy bear.

Just don't tell your wife you love her like this. ;)
I can see it now "Oh you have to force yourself to love me, is that how it is? I am just a burden on your back. I am nothing but nails in your hands and feet, am I? " the wife.
"no,no, no dear, not at all! I..I..I...was just, uh....I was just giving some examples, yeah thats it.......some examples." pastor N.B.

Oh man, words cannot explain it, because the emotions are just our bodies trying to translate what is happening to our spirits and oh man I cant go without it! Tonight I get to not only witness it with my friends at Rock.com(church thing) but also shout to my Father with them!

Ummm, just one little comment... Christianity is not based on emotions, and in fact, the love we are commanded to show to our wives in the Bible is not a love of emotion but a love of duty and protection... :)

Not sure waht yo maen there :D
But since when does Christianity have to be fun? :)
It gives you peace - did God ever promise fun and entertainment? Not really. But it ends up that way 'cause God gives us peace, which allows us to be happy during pretty mcuh anything...... :) At least, that possibility is there.
But, really - the man is commanded by God to provide for his wife, doing his duty, etc. Emotional showing of love is not commanded by God.
It's always there, though... at least, I haven't really seen many marriages without it ;) hehe.

The word "joy" is listed almost 200 times in the bible. If your life isn't overflowing with joy, then there is something wrong. Do you tell people about Jesus, because he is boring?Because they could goto hell?
[These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.] Jesus said that in John 15:11
[Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound] Psalms 4:7 In the NIV it says Joy(gladness)
Now there are hard times, but look at Paul when he and another were in jail, what did they do?
All this talk about love is an action stuff, is blah, blah, blah. Sure there are times when you get angry.
[for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and JOY the Holy Spirit] Romans 14:17
If I had to force myself to love God or anyone else, then I would have to say that is not love.

Well, to answer your question directly. . .The feeling of the presense of the Holy Spirit seems to be different for everybody. I've known Jesus and been filled with the Spirit since I was a child.
I don't always feel much of anything but when I'm in His presence I seem to have what one poster called "a buzz". :D
I've never been drunk in the world so I don't know how I would act if I did. But in the presence of God I tend to be what my ex-pastors lovingly called "their quiet drunk". I would just sit there quietly and watch everyone. People look at me and say I have a glazed look in my eyes. I don't necessarily feel anything major until maybe I try to stand up. That's when I notice it the most. When I try to stand up.
I know it's not that way for everyone and it does not matter because the Holy Spirit is present whether we feel Him or not. We walk by faith not by sight.

interesting quaffie,
i've also wondered how some pastors/leaders can know the difference between an annointing for healing, and an annoiting for, say, praying for marriages. ??
how do we know when the annointing is upon us to do something (ie power is there, results are fast), and what that something we are supposed to do is?? thru experience?

OK Andy, interesting in what way?
I don't know quite how to answer your questions.
For me, I just follow through with whatever it is that I believe God is telling me to do at the time and however He works it, it was anointed. :D
I guess ya can tell that area is not my strong point heh? :) But isnt that what Jesus' mother Mary told the people at the wedding? "Whatever He says, do it!" :holy:

For me, it's like being hit in the head with a brick. :)
Just kidding.
When the Holy Spirit comes to me, it's mostly through my thoughts. I get a new way to look at things, or Scriptural understanding is made available. It's comparable to a light bulb coming on in my head.
(and I'm a Lutheran!)

Two thing are happening in the spirit at the same time.
First you must understand that the annointing to minister is different then the annointing to worship (the annointing that you feel when you worship).
The annointing to worship has already been discribed as a buzz.
The annointing to minister feels like power flooding though your body, like electricity. You are endowed with strength and faith, and adrenaline is pumping through your veins. You may notice your limbs starting to shake under the adrenaline. This rush will probably just seem to happen without reason, and then you will have a Word of Wisdom.
Its almost as if you were just minding your own business and them God drops a mantel on you to preform His will and then He tell you what to do.

when i feel the holy spirit in worship it can make me cry - once for like 2 hours or jump for joy and shout an more than words can explain!!!!!!!!!!! The first time i had no idea why i wanted to cry in the middle of church until i saw others were to and got a youth leader to explain it to me.
The other kind of experience was wen i shared my testimony in the town centre when we doing youth outreach and i didnt know what to say, i was terrified, so i planned the first line and let the holyspirit guide me from there.

I love the feeling that I get during a worship service, and also during a sermon that teaches me something new.
But
I really love how God gets me all pumped up outside of the church in my every day life.
He is like the best coach you can imagine.
