Now I could be wrong, as I am not familiar with denominations that speak in tongues, but I would say you are Pentacostal.

not real big on having to "title" my religion
christian is good enough
and i fellowship at a non-denominational church
that is where God has called me

so it would seem obvious that by your stated beliefs you are a christian
and if ya gotta be one religion or the other
looking at the sign on the church you attend and where there are God ordained relationships happening that are not only life changing for you, but for those around you, that is the "name of the religion" i would use

a pretty general and open ended answer...........but maybe not

just what i think

Well, from my understanding of the denominations, it seems like you would be Pentacostal, but I feel it is one's choice to give themselves that kind of title. I go to a non-denominational church because I feel more at peace with God going to New Hope Christian Church. I hope that helps, but i'm not sure.

Um... Does it matter? My church is not pentecostal (but non-denom) but we believe in the gift of tongues.

If you have faith in Christ and have a relationship with him, then that's all that matters. Find a Christ-centered and Bible centered church.

That is excellent advice, but I have a question. What if you are unsure whether you have a relationship with Christ?

I do not believe that certain aspects should be related with a denomination.
I do call myself any denomination. I belong to the church that is led by Jesus Christ, not the Queen, not the Pope, not a man.

As for being pentocostal for speaking in tongues......I do no associate myself with any denomination and I teach myself from the bible (with help from various churches).

Mark 16:17
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

It seems to be that people are too quick to seperate themselves from others in the search of uniqueness or sheer pride. It is sad. The slightest argument that arises in a church and we get another denomination.
I can't wait for the day that all the denominations will crumble and form one true church of Jesus Christ.

I totally agree with you chris!1 Corinthians 1:10-17 and 1 Corinthians chapter 3 condemns divisions of any kind in the church!Denominations are divisions and i scorn them.

In the Begining, God created the heavens and the earth.
Gen. 1:1
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Shouldn't that be enough for everyone?

Generally, most pentacostal churches will either be referred to as pentecostal or non-denominational. There are a lot of churches that refer to themselves as non-denominational. From Christian churches/Churches of Christ, Pentacostal, Charismatic, etc.

Of course, I believe that we are only christians, not christians only.

Hello: :D

Godslilgurlalways, most Pentecostal's call themselves "non-denominational." There is no difference in their eyes. Therefore, you are Pentecostal.

I think all religious people who try to follow the teaching of the New Testament believe in the "power of the Holy Spirit." Now, what you mean by "power of the Holy Spirit" may be different than what I believe or someone else. Coming from a Pentecostal background, years ago, I am pretty familiar with most of the doctrines of the Pentecostals etc.

The Holy Spirit always works WITH the terms of the New Covenant (New Testament). Everything we need to know, that the Lord let's us know, is written for us in the Bible. We DON'T need "latter day" revelations etc. or words from some latter day prophet.

The New Testament (which is also referred to as the New Covenant) reveals God's terms for us to live by, to worship, shows us how to be saved, etc.

When Jesus died on the cross He "sealed" the New Covenant. Like the Hebrew writer said, when the testator dies (Jesus) then the testament (like a will, but NOT a will) will go into force. (Heb 9:16,17). The New Testament was written by God and sealed by His Son. We CAN'T add anything nor can

we take away from this testament.... it is signed, sealed and delivered to all mankind.

If we obey the terms of this testament, Jesus says we will be saved.

Now, getting to your tongues. There are only two tongues incidents in the Bible that pointed out some important things. The first is found in Acts 2 where the apostles received tongues, these were ALL JEWISH and the next incident was where Cornelius, the Gentile centurion, received tongues "just as the apostles did in Acts 2. THIS WAS A SIGN to the Jewish people (following Christ) that God was "including" the Gentiles (you and me) into the New Covenant.

If you see tongues, miracles etc., please the whole context of where it's mentioned and you will see that it is a "confirmation" of the Word being spoken by an apostle. The apostle's had signs of an apostle.

2 Corinthians 12:12 12 truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

I encourage you to study the Word of our Lord. He will bless you through His Word.

luv,
Charles

Just a notation of interpretation. I see that you have learned to follow the knowledge of those around you and use what is best suited to your understanding. A greater understanding of things you would attain, if you would read for yourself the terms contained in Scripture as to what you are, instead of the terms of man.
The Scriptures lay before you, all knowledge and wisdom is contained therein to those who are of " The Chosen Ellect". Be what you would be and not what man wants you to be.

I don't believe that "pentecostal" is a denomination of itself.
For instance: The Church of God (Cleveland, Tn) is pentecostal, The Assemblies of God is pentecostol, most of the "apostolic" churches are pentecostal. You can be non-denominational and be pentecostal. Another title for pentecostal can be full gospel.

The term pentecostal refers to the day of pentecost in Acts chapter 2 when the Holy Ghost fell in the upper room and all were filled with the Holy Ghost and spake with new tounges. Any church that believes in the "baptism of the Holy Ghost" with the evidence of speaking in tounges can be considered 'pentecostal'.

Personally I believe you should seek God's face through a relationship with Jesus and not worry about religion.

Grace and Peace,
Denton
