I'm reading an old book of C H Spurgeon's Sermons, Volume 4. Is this a good book to read for a newly saved person?

Sermon's are always good things.
I might reccomend the following in addition to that book:
Knowing God, by J.I. Packer, Discipleship: Living For Christ in the Daily Grind by Arnold, and the Handbook for Christian Living by Charles Stanley (its pretty basic and would even discuss the real presence you asked about earlier which I will respond to, I am just waiting to get done with my test review--wich I am already procrastinating on!!)

Spurgeon was a Calvinist, meaning he believed God predestined some people for salvation and created others just to burn in hell for eternity. If you can stomach that, I think you will find a lot of other things Spurgeon preached to be edifying.

I don't know anything about Calvinists, but I found his sermon about the talents very interesting, even if he does use the word "talents" to mean actual talents and not the money denomination our concordance says it was.
If I get to the part where God creates people to make them burn in Hell, I'll let you know.
