i did some digging into psychology and nutrition in my spare time, and i suspect that two are linked together in most instances when it comes to depression. the so called 'misfit fats'(as opposed to fitness fats) can slow down energy production(metabolism) and performance and lead to depression.
'Misfit fats' are those that have been damaged by destructive processing, and these are not only unnecessary and unhelpful for fitness, but they interfere with and are detrimental to performance and health. 'Misfit fats' come in margarine and shortening forms as trans-fatty acids, in fried fats, and in over-processed, overheated commercial oils(read McDonalds). To some extent, saturated fats, sugars, and starches also fit into this category, because they make an already existing shortage of 'fitness fats' even worse.
i recommend reading this article for more info: http://www.udoerasmus.com/articles/udo/fitfat.htm
i know how hard it can be to say no to a peanut butter but you gotta remember that most processed foods contain misfit fats so look out for them.

I'd be surprised if this surprises anybody. Junk food isn't called 'junk' just for the heck of it.
