Hi, I'm new to the forum and wasn't sure where to ask this question...
I'm a non-denominational christian who is dating a catholic. We have have been dating for a while and are talking about marriage. I have been thinking about converting to catholicism, but I don't believe in a few things such as praying to the saints, rosary or confession to another human being.
So, my question is: Is there a denomination of the cathloic faith where they have more of a protestant view? Or, is there a catholic denomination that does not believe in praying to the saints?
Thansk!!

The answer to your question is "no". All Catholics pray to Saints, go to Confession, etc.
There is a LOT to learn, I can tell ya! ;)

It is the Catholic Forum, "One Bread, One Body", aka OBOB :) .

I guess I will post about the obvious factual issues of the catholic denomination in that forum ?

Welcome EL26!-
So is there a chance that your significant other would convert to a similar protestant denomination instead, like Lutherism?

I'm a non-denominational christian who is dating a catholic. We have have been dating for a while and are talking about marriage.
Be sure you talk to GOD about whether or not HE wants you to marry before you take it any further.

Yes, please! Even if you decide to become Catholic yet marry this girl, you will be required to raise any children you have as Catholics. You need to thoroughly research this and think carefully and pray. I sent you a private message about this matter.

Catholic is Catholic - they are uniform in areas such as these . The confession to another is not optional . Praying to saints or the rosary is "officially" optional unless it is a part of one's pennance . Sometimes they have praying to Mary or doing a part of the rosary as part of the pennance . As another poster pointed out , if the person that you marry is Catholic and desires to stay such , *you* will need to agree to force your children into the Catholic doctrines . It was forced on me . I find the idea contradictory to the whole theme of Christianity . Then again , I have known others in other groups that force their children to agree with the doctrines of their groups and go to their meetings . It isn't an exclusively "Catholic" thing .

I faced this same problem 46 years ago. I thought love would solve the problem. Although it has not been a very vocal problem - it is always underneath the surface.
After 10 years I just could no longer go to the Catholic church - I got up one morning and cried my eyes out - my husband ask me what is wrong - I said I don't want to go to the Catholic church any more, but don't want to cause problems. He said well do you think I don't love you enough to try something else - we became Lutheran to meet in the middle - I was able to raise my children Lutheran - some say it is the same as the Catholic and that is not true. We were able to be a family with the same beliefs.
I pray you will get this solved before you marry - it can really cause problems. I have cried many a tear over it. We have now retired - my husband once again said he wanted to go to the Catholic church - my heart sank - so the past 10 years we have gone to the Catholic church - in the meantime - I became Spirit filled ( knew nothing about it - was alone at home reading about the Holy Spirit - I just said Lord if this is of you - I want it) The infilling of the Holy Spirit was immediate and beautiful - God knew my heart) and it is a whole different world - I cannot tell you the difference. We moved 8 months ago and have not gone to church in our new area - I don't mention it because I am afraid he will say Catholic and he doesn't mention it because he has lost a lot of faith in the teachings.
So we have our Bible reading and have our devotions by ourselves - this is just where the Lord wants us right now - we are learning so much and my husband is reading for himself some of the teachings that are not correct.
Just go into it with your eyes wide open - if you go to church and you are not comfortable there - it won't get any better. Ask God for some clear guidance. Be open to His guidance.

my friend, somtimes its not a matter of what YOU believe but what infact is the truth, this is the reason i am converting to catholic, because i got to a point where i reasiled its not a matter of denying things i dont believe, But having to follow things that are truth weather you believe them or not.
Not believing somthing doest make it go away.

Not believing somthing doest make it go away.
Neither does believing something make it true.

I don't think there's any way I would or could follow my husband into a Catholic church. I would be squirming the whole time and probably walking out a lot. I just couldn't do it. Nor could I follow him into a JW church which he used to go to before he met me. I don't believe wives should feel they must follow their husbands into what they clearly believe is error. My conscience wouldn't be able to stand it.

.
thats just using word games,
if you lived by that theory you couldnt believe 100% anything was true

A lot of other people around here use word games. It works both ways. Believing something doesn't make it true, not belieivng something doesn't make it false. The truth is the truth and the false is the false regardless of what people believe. As I heard someone else put it, reality doesn't care about your beliefs. So many around here arrogantly say they have the fullness of truth and yet when you examine their belief system by the word of God, let's just say some of us come to a different conclusion as to whether certain groups have the fullness of truth or not.

I don't understand why Catholics pray to saints, or Mary, but maybe that's for another thread?
I always thought we were supposed to pray to God, and no one else.
I have never prayed to anyone but God...

What they are doing is asking saints to pray for us. The reason behind it is that all those that have died with faith have died and been resurrected with Jesus Christ.
When one says "pray" is should be thought of as "asked to pray". We don't think saints can perform miracles for us, they are just people that can offer their prayers for us

There is no such thing as a Catholic "denomination", but rosaries and asking saints to pray for us is not required to be a Catholic.

If a butcher has a question about carpentry, it wouldn't make much sense for him to have a meeting with other butchers and speculate about the particular aspect of carpentry that he has a question about. Rather, it would make sense for him to approach a carpenter or group of carpenters and ask them his question.
That's obviously an analogy, and I'm sure you see what it's getting at.
