Over my vacation (I just got back from Oregon, a wonderful Billy vacation), I read this book:

The Ironic Christian's Companion : Finding the Marks of God's Grace in the World (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/157322782X/qid=996077491/sr=1-8/ref=sc_b_8/002-5862426-0225640) by Patrick Henry

the cover looks like this:

Funny thing, is I never thought of Christianity as ironic!

I had to go to Webster's:
Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended.

Then I had an Aha! moment... WHY wouldn't Christianity be ironic!?!??!

The grace of God surprises me more often than not, and the little glimpses of his hand in my life and the lives, that through his grace, I have been allowed to touch, is amazing, and .... ironic!

In a way, this very board and its creation is ironic.

So, this is a thread where we can list things that are poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended.

Have fun!

No, no, really, what's so ironic is that this man, Jesus, in spite of all we did to Him (yes, even us who still weren't a gleam in our ggranddaddies' eyes yet), willingly gave up His own life...loved us when we were unloveable, drew us to Him when everyone else was pushing away!!!! Hallelujah! What a Saviour! :)

As my preacher is so fond of saying, whether I go or whether I stay, I'm a winner either way!

Yeah I know...We killed his son..and there was no wraith for that...something ironic? That's easy..I give up control to God and get tons of it back  All these options he keeps giving me are unreal.

Actually, it's only ironic if it were a human that did this. It's not unexpected that God loves and willingly gave His Life for us. I don't know why and I won't know until I'm in Heaven, but it's something I expect from Him.

He loves us and I know it. From God that's not unexpected.

However, I do find Jon's post to be ironic. ;)

It is ironic, if you will, that God chose to save any of us. We should go to hell, but he decided to rescue a few. :)

It is ironic, if you will, that God chose to save any of us. We should go to hell, but he decided to rescue a few.I understand the point being made. But under the definition given by Jon Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended.I don't see it that way. God being God, I fully expect that He would save us no matter what we did and that His intention would be to save us all.

For me, choosing not to save anyone would be contrary to His nature. So I see it both ways. But then I'm crazy so, there you have it. ;)

No, if it is expected he would save some, why not all? To me, saving any is unexpected and undeserved. Contrary to what is expected of a just God.

Hmmm, I gotta disagree there again, Kevin. Because He is also merciful. So His justice is to save us. It's just the way I see it. :)

thats so neat. ive been wanting to compile a little list o irony for what i've been calling 'the ironic life' ,that being christianity. didnt know there was already a book.

in my life so much seems ironic with regard to my faith...
being a sinner and at the same time a saint for one...
