It's just the Christian version of the Boy Scouts. It's OK.

I think is AWANAS is an excellent way for children to be introduced to christ, have fun, and make good young christian friends at the same time. It is a positive alternative to boy scouts or w/e young children do now a days

Isn't the Boy Scouts a Christian organization?

My son joined this year and so far he absolutely loves it. He is already involved in several groups and activities. We asked him if he wanted to drop AWANA but he absolutely wanted to continue.

Well, being an AWANA leader I would have to say that I support the program!;) Not only does it challenge the child to grow and learn in their faith, but it also just gives them a fun outlet that is biblically based. Also, in our church it also serves as a witnessing and outreach tool. There are many kids involved in our program that do not even belong to our church, they are brought by someone else. This may be the way that they learn who Jesus is and what He has done for them.

While the Boy Scout oath says "I will do my best to do my duty to God and to my country...." it's not an evangelical organization as is AWANA. I do not know if the founder intended it to be a Christian organization but it certainly is not non-Christian or anti-Christian. Depending on the leaders the Boy Scouts can be a positive experience for boys.

Awesome! :) How old is your son?

Our church offers it, but I had never heard of it before. They look just too darn cute in their little outfits. My son is active in the High School ministry, however. (He's 14 already - they grow so fast! :( ).

Frist Boy Scouts was founded as a Christian organization as was Camp Fire, both founded in 1910 by the same person.

I was just wondering on the AWANA's thing, cause I am a new leader and I had never heard of AWANA's before coming to this church. I lead 5-6 grade girls.

I'd never heard of it before either but my son wanted to join with some of his friends. It's at a baptist church here in town and while we're not baptist I've been impressed with what they do and how much my son loves it.

The Boy Scouts and Girl Guides are still a Christian based organisation in the UK. Of course you don't have to be a Christian to belong, and no proselytising is permitted. My eldest daughter (35) is an Anglican Priest and a very keen Guider, she has always enjoyed the organisation.
