Anti-Defamation League: Use of converted Jews is offensive

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- A leading Jewish organization is condemning the Southern Baptist Convention for using a group of "messianic" Jews -- those who have converted to Christianity -- in its evangelism.

Anti-Defamation League director Abraham Foxman said the effort is offensive because the Southern Baptists are using Jews who have converted to Christianity "to go after other Jews."

As a Jew who is now messianic, I'm very interested in your opinions about this article. I've had my own issues with some individuals of this denomination while I lived in Memphis, TN in the early 80's...

Shalom Ray,

I also join you in praying.Sha-alu Shalom Yerushalayim

As to the article, well I would have to say the Baptists are not forcing converted Jews tro try to convert other Jews. I would pray they would listen to each other as there is sooo much to learn from each other.

I think perhaps the greatest area to discuss would be Yeshua's words in Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

I know from dealing with exmuslims I have met on a site i run w/ an exmuslim, they desparatley wish to reach other Muslims with Yeshua's words, and more often than not, former muslims have better success reaching muslims, as they know the Arabic language as well as the culture, particularly in Muslim lands, which as they tell me is very dangerous business, so I would imagine that would be part of the reason Baptists/Christians would encourage Jews to speak to other Jews.(the cultural and language, not danger)

As we know though egoes clash and it sometimes makes fruitful discussion difficult from either side.

Sha-alu Shalom Yerushalayim!!!

I know Jim Sibley. He has the title of "President of the Southern Baptist North American Missions to the Jews" which means they give him an office, a secretary, and a hard time.

He is a sincere man who lived in Israel for many many years and speak fluent hebrew. He attends a southern baptist messianic congregation (they don't dance! LOL)

I've talked with him a few times about the Southern Baptists and he laments that mostly they don't think jews will get saved until after the "Great Tribulation" has started.

It's a lot of talk but not much will actually get done
