View Full Version : Messianic Muslims?

I recently came across the concept of Messianic Muslims - that is, Muslims who still attend mosque, and so on, but profess to follow Isa the Messiah.
I was wondering - what do you think about that? Is following Jesus compatible with being a Muslim in the same way that it's compatible with being a Jew?

there are many flaws with the group, although there are former muslims who are messianic.

I recently came across the concept of Messianic Muslims - that is, Muslims who still attend mosque, and so on, but profess to follow Isa the Messiah.
A Muslim is an adherent of Islam. I do not see how one could profess belief in Moshiach and still practice Islam.
Messianic Believer is:
*A Jew or Non-Jew who is OF (saved by or has accepted) Y'shua HaMoshiach/Jesus The Messiah.
*A Jew or Non-Jew that is not identified by a title or affiliation to a specific denomination.
*A Jew or Non-Jew led by the Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodosh to seek a deeper understanding of the scriptures and Torah (including some or all of the following, by not limited to);
**By following Hebrew Holydays;
**By seeking a deeper understanding of the Torah and TaNaK;
**By following the 613 Mitzvot (commandments)
**By keeping Kashrut;
**A Jew or Non-Jew who has chosen to follow Sh'ma in it's truest form
**Ger tzedek ( גר הגר - "sojourning stranger" - is interpreted as ger tzedek by the Talmud)
**Ger toshav pl. geirei toshav, Hebrew: גר תושב also called a righteous gentile
Nostri
Who is NOT Messianic
Even though there are some similarities in the beliefs, there are also major differences.
A Jew or Non-Jew who ascribes or follows a denominational path or doctrine.
A Jew or Non-Jew who denies the validity of Torah תורה
A Jew or Non-Jew that does NOT follow the Mosaic covenant Torah תורה
A Jew or Non-Jew that believes the modern church is the replacement of Yisra'el.
A Jew or Non-Jew that does not follow or accept the Tanakh [תנ״ך] as being as valid today as when given by G-d.
A Jew or Non-Jew who denies the diety of Y'shua
Now understand this is my opinion. This is how I look at what Messianic is.
Or is not.
Do I believe that there are former Muslims who now believe in Moshiach and are messianic (by the definitions above) I have met several. But they do not attend the Mosque, nor do they associate with islam.
Personally I have a problem with the term Messianic Muslim. But Messianic Arab, Messianic Iraqi, or Messianic Jordanian, no that doesn't bother me.
I was wondering - what do you think about that? Is following Jesus compatible with being a Muslim in the same way that it's compatible with being a Jew?
I personally do not think they are compatible, the common denominator that is missing in this compatibility is Torah. Muslims do NOT accept Torah at all.
But then again this is only my opinion.
Shalom

First of all In Islamic theology Yeshua/ to them is called Isa, was not crucified, was only a human, was superceded by Mohammad whom they claim is "the seal of the prophets"! Not to mention the denunciation of Yeshua as the Son of G_d, nor that G_d (Allah to them) is a Father.
Also their Eschatology teaches that "the last day will not come until the tribes of Islam have defeated the tribes of Jews so that even the trees and rocks cry out ' O' Muslim prophet of Allah there is a Jew Hiding behind me come kill them"!
Islam also is a replacement theology to the extreme!
I don't see how they could mesh what Islam teaches, such as it was Ishmael not Isaac Abraham was going to sacrifice, as well as the belief that Yeshua will come back, kill the anti-Christ, destroy the pigs( and brake the crosses,(I would imagine that is Jews and Christians, as Walid Shoebat has stated that when he grew up as a plo member, and in his early childhood, they taught them "Jews were descendants of "monkeys and pigs" :sigh: ) marry and have children, live on earth I believe it is 40yrs. then die and be buried by Muhammad. That is some of the arguments I have encountered with them anyway.
I stop at that, as we can let the actions of Muslims do the talking on that.
I know former Muslims who are Messianic believers such as Walid Shoebat, who since converting from Islam and leaving the plo several years ago now teach Zionism and the Jews sole right to the land etc...
Blessings all :bow:

well Muslims do accept portions of Torah, mainly jewish traditions though. I read awhile back an article on a jewish website saying that islam and judaism looked too much alike so the jews changed some of the traditions.
If a muslim argues with a christian, he or she might point out why do you eat pork? it's forbidden in the torah. If a muslim argues with a messianic, the messianic might say, why do you eat shellfish and catfish? it's forbidden in the torah.:D

First consider What came first Judaism or Islam? Meaning, if any borrowing was done it would have been possible from the latter, and often stories in the Koran and ahadiths are similar to the Bible, but then the stories change such as the claim that it was Ishmael that was nearly sacrificed instead of Isaac.
Even crazy stories of ants talking to Solomon. I don't know what website you read that on, but I have plenty of exmuslim friends, one of which used to live in Lahore Pakistan, and they have oodles of info on the teachings of Islam etc...(can't give the link via rules(I think), but pm me if you want me to send it to you)
Also some MJ's don't eat shellfish catfish and do their utmost to uphold Torah. Some of the folks here will verify that ;)
Yeshua taught there is no marriage in Heaven, Muhammad taught one would receive 72 virgins, some say 72x72 etc...in other words one's view was of fleshy things and One's is of Spritual as to their words of Heaven/Paradise.
There again who had thousands of years of writings and teachings to borrow from? It would be somewhat easy to try to resemble a faith already grounded and by claiming some of the things already taught, then tweaking it and calling for the death to those that go against you. Yeshua as you know never taught any such thing!
Sorry for rambling :sorry:
I pray G_d bless you and yours always :bow:

re-read what I wrote :P
ya, I know judaism came first and islam took quite a bit of traditions and adopted them to their own religion. I know some of the stories in the quran such as adam and eve being the first muslims :doh: eve committed no sin and so on. Also one of my favorite verses in the BH is the one that says..even if an angel (messengar) comes to you and tells you to add to MY word, do not believe him...or something like that. Well I can think of two religions where the angel (messengar) gabriel came to men and told them about the new book.

"Messianic Muslim" is an oxymoron. It is a reference to two seperate religions. A messianic arab yes, but not a messianic muslim.

LOL Wags. I use to say that my mind would go AWOL during my pregnancys. So frustrating at times.
Personally though, that was my first thought when I read the post. You can be either/or, but not both. Whoever thought up the term, needs to rethink the logic of it.

This is my second and I've known about him since my daughters first birthday just before Passover. So it has been along hot summer, complete with heat stroke. (We were camping in a metal pole barn for 10 months while our house was being built.) A recent picture of my daugther, Bekah, is my Avatar. On the "Feeling Pregnant" thread is yesterdays ultrasound pictures of my son. With the miscarriage I had at the begining of the year, and the fact that my son, Ari, is scheduled to arrive Dec 20th, I will have spent 11 of 12 months pregnant in 2005. He is the first grandson for both sides of the family and the first great grandson for dh's side of the family. Some very very excited grandparents to say the least! My daughter was the first grandchild, and the two of them will be exactly 20 months apart.
Mazel Tov! on your 16th anniversary! :thumbsup: Today is a good date - its also my birthday! (I'm older than dirt, but still younger than hubby!:D) We will be celebrating our 12th anniversary in a few days. Mazel Tov also on your sons up coming Bar Mitzvah!:)

Shalom all,
Just to be clear when I am posting about Islam etc...it is not meant to be a slam against Arabs per sey, as I know many wonderful Arab people, but it is against the forced belief system in which many have no choice but to follow the hatred that is force fed down their throats pretty much at birth. Children should not be taught such songs in kindergarten "Arabs are beloved and Jews are dogs"! Walid Shoebat says he and the other Arab/Palestinian children were taught that at such young tender ages. We want the people in those countries to have the freedom to chose what they want without the threat of persection from the Islamic sword.
They deserve better, if they are willing to stand up and fight for it.
whitneysyed,
My friend I mentioned before may be able to help you connect with others in Pakistan that are Messianic. I don't know as I am sure they are far and few between if any. Here's his website link
www.abrahamic-faith.com/
I hope that's not against the rules to post the link there?
His name is Simon Altaf, and he is formerly from Pakistan and currently lives in the UK.
If you would like send me a pm and I'll give you his email address, or you can get it from the link I posted. He is a Messianic as well.
He gave me a link to his radio site. http://www.yesumasih.com/
He was supposed to be on tonight and I forgot about it. :doh: The time difference from there to here threw me off :scratch:
Good night and G_d bless :bow: :pray:

sorry :blush: I never mentioned it I don't think.
After I graduate I will probably travel there for at least 3 months every two years or so to live with my MIL and FIL. There are 3 or 4 messianic congregations in India but none in Pakistan (there are also many Jewish people in India)
