View Full Version : Let your Light Shine
The Simple Plan

It's all well and good pontificating about what it means to be a Christian. Sometimes that can be the most annoying thing about Christians as everyone thinks they have the right answer irrespective of another's take on it.
The bible instructs us to "Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and come to glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Personally speaking, How do you let your light shine?

Allow me to start the ball rolling.
Each morning I ask the Lord to sanctify me, to make me humble in my speech and in my behaviour. To have patience and to show love to those around me.
Through his power I endeavour to act on his goodness working through me (sometimes I fall very badly by not responding to him as I should) so that his name is glorified.
How bout you? <!-/Text-!>

that is a bit of an akward question. It seems like bragging time. But I will bite.
I try to be a good friend, donate time, donate money, and do general service for people. Let's say a non christian friend of yours is moving. Moving someone tends to be a long tiring process. But you show up and work hard all day. After they are sitting in their new home, they will think about how nice it was of you to help them. This type of deed is a good way for people to see Christ in you. Christ was a servant, and he wants us to serve. So by serving people (in whatever way) Christ's light can shine through us. Then lets say you invite that person to chuch some time later. I be that they will go with you because of the kindness that you showed to them. They will listen to what you say about Christ because you show love.
I like the two verses before the one you quoted, matt 5:14-15
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."
We would be fools to hide our light. Too many people walk in darnkess.

I try to consistently love my neighbor and my enemy.

I try to hate my life and everyone and everything around me. As Jesus said unless you do this you can't be a Christian.
love in Christ,

I try to be a gentle, kind person (which doesnt always happen, but I work on it).
Try to be a servant for Him. To be joyful in Him. To not show anxiety in times of trouble so unsaved people can see the peace He can give.
To not eat the last donut and let my husband have it. ;)

Dear friend, you have so much within you to show the world. Do you know who and what you are? Do you realize what really happened to you when you were born again? He lives in you. It was not just a transaction that took place on paper. The man you once were is gone. It is no longer you that lives, it is Christ that lives in you. Listen to that spirit that has been birthed within you. Learn to speak what it says and do the things it leads you to. Follow the compassion that is in you and you will always show forth the light and life of Jesus! PUT ON THE OUTSIDE WHAT LIVES ON THE INSIDE OF YOU!
Col 3:
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

For clarification this was not meant to be an excercise for bragging or showing off, which are not the characteristics of someone being born again in Jesus. :(
What the aim was to define how you see "letting your light shine" that men may glorify God through your sanctified behaviour!! :D
Hope that makes this clearer!!
