For those of you who are part of ECUSA and/or use the '79 BCP, which Eucharistic Prayer is your favorite?

My favorites would have to be prayers B and D... but I also like A and C (okay, I like them all! lol ;) ) :)

I am C of E, so I can't vote, but I prefer Order One in contemporary language (I think that's similar to Rite II in ECUSA's BCP), and my favourite Eucharistic Prayers are A, B, C and G.

What are the differences?

Philip, here ya go: http://www.saintgabriels.org/bcp/contents.html

I voted for Rite II A myself, though I love them all too. Rite II A has a certain magesty about it that warms my heart each time.

It's chief rival would have to be C, which I like to call the "Star Trek" Eucharist Liturgy ;) :D

I prefer Goodshepherd Rosemont's version in the Anglican Service Book.

I don't like any of the Rite II stuff, though we use it. Rite I is the only one I really get touched by.

My favorite is Rite I, Prayer I.

I've never been too fond of Rite II, and I've never heard Prayer II before.

I've never cared much for Rite II, it always sounded too much like a committee-groupthink effort gone bad.

Rite I, Eucharistic Prayer I, however, can bring tears to my eyes.

Interestingly, I've never actually seen Rite II/Prayer C used. Has anyone else?

I have.

A friend of mine, who was just ordained to the Transitional Diaconate, confessed once that the few times she's heard Prayer C used, she's had to resist the urge to hum the Star Trek theme. ^_^

Rite C is horrible, though as Roman as I am, I don't think that it is quite as horrible as the N.O. Close call, though. In case you guys don't know, here is a sample: "At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home." I always found it to be BAD Rodenberry prose. Who do we hire to write this stuff. Cranmer is having fits in heaven.

See, that's the part I like best! Isn't it wonderful that we are so diverse?

I voted for Rite 1 Prayer 1, maybe its because its the first one I heard. I just heard Rite 2 for the first time this Sunday, and although I like it, I think I prefer Rite 1 more.

No one else likes Prayer D? :(

Prayer C is very popular at my church... down here people are all about A and C

I wouldn't want to hear Eucharistic Prayer C used during Advent or Lent, but I do consider it a strong liturgy because it manages to incorporate our new understandings of the majesty of God's creation into a traditional framework and, ironically, conveys a sense of history going back not only to early Christianity, but also to Judiasm. Despite being a unique form of the liturgy, it is important to note that none of the important elements of the traditional Eucharist have been cut, and that the "Holy, Holy, Holy", Our Father, words of consecration, and blessing are all intact. Besides, it manages to work in "By his wounds we have been healed", which is a phrase from the Book of Isaiah that really works well in context and which I wish was included in some of the other Eucharistic prayers. :)

I agree that phrase "interstellar space" is a bit awkward and one of the most unintentionally funny moments I've witnessed in church was listening to a priest trip over the word "interstellar" in the mists of a liturgy, but everyone harps on that one small part of the prayer. There's more to it than that. :)

I love the old language, most definitely. It takes me to that holy place inside...if that makes sense.

I like them all, including C. We used C at mass this morning.

I must say that I'm a little surprised at the popularity of Rite I. Where I am, Rite I is becoming less and less popular. That just goes to show how differant each diocese is!

I've no idea what form of prayers we use - the words just pop up on the screen as we say them as we see them. We have HC about once a month, and then I miss a few with doing children's work. My memory doesn't store that information from one HC to the next, I'm afraid.

At my parish, we have 2 Rite I's 2 Rite II's, and one 'Rite III' on Sundays. (One of the Rite I's is without music, one of the Rite II's is the 'family zoo mass').

They all draw quite a crowd (except for the 'Rite III'), but there's been some talk over getting rid of the Rite I services - but I suspect if that happens, some folks will just go join another parish.

(I'm one of the Rite I devotees and if my parish discontinued Rite I, I'd have a very difficult decision to make.)

I think my parish is a little unique, in that the Rite I is the late service, and the Rite II the early. At almost every other church in my area, the Rite I is at 7:45 or 8-ish, but my parish's is at 10:45. That's a really refreshing change for a Rite I devotee like me.

Also, AveMaria, what is "Rite III"?

Sundays, the earliest service is Rite I, then there's Rite II, Rite II, and another Rite I at 11:15. (I love being able to sleep in a bit!)

If memory serves me correctly, Rite III is a bit of a slang nickname originally given to the alternative forms 1 & 2 (pp 402 - 405) in the 1979 BCP, which are intended for informal usage and not for regular use. The term is now also used jokingly to refer to experimental liturgy or liturgy that is currently being developed.

I'm already a diehard Rite I with no music fan. It's not that I find it more holy or spiritual or anything, I just like it better. My parish has no Rite I services, but every once in a while I go to another parish just for the spoken Rite I service.
