I have started this thread as I would like a greater insight in to the name of God from people with an understanding of the Jewish alphabet and pronunciation.
The name of God as found in the Bible is written as YHWH.
YHWH comes from the Hebrew letters: Yud, Hay, Vav, Hay. Is this correct?
And also what would be the best pronunciation for these letters Yahweh, Jehovah or would it be pronounced as it reads YudHayVavHay?

Actually it is not found in our Bible, the word Adonai is substituted,as many of us revere the name of G-d that it should not be used lightly. Where the name is actually printed ( very rarely ) or written, as in the Torah, it is treated with the uptmost care so as not to desecrate it, for it is Holy. When referring to what you typed out many will say, besides Adonai, we say 'HaShem', which means 'the name', or the Holy name of G-d. If speaking of it in reference to a question , then it is called the tetragramaton.
Otherwise the 3rd commandment is broken.
It is also considered unpronouncable.
Follow the Gospels, do you ever see Yeshua pronounce it? Call him Father as Yeshua commanded us to. For he is your Heavenly Father.

Since it was not written with vowel points, there is no way of knowing for sure how it was to be pronounced. Which is why it is somtimes referred to as the unknowable name.
But Jehovah would definately not be the best - since there is no "J" sound in hebrew.

Is J pronounced as Y, (YEHOVAH)?
At one time in English the J was pronounced like a Y. The shift in pronunciation occurred as a result of the French influence. German still pronounces the J as Y.

Very interesting. :)
Does this mean that the first pronunciation of Jehovah in English would have been Yehovah? Was the name Jehovah before or after the French revolution

Ancient Hebrew characters are pictures that indicate the characters meaning with words being formed by combining the pictures and their meanings.
If you know the associated ancient picture for a character, it can reveal some amazing information when interpreting the Hebrew Scriptures.
YHWH or YHVH (Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey)
Yod = Arm and Hand, make, my (shaped like an arm and hand)
Hey = Arms extended, Behold, to reveal, what comes forth (shaped like a slightly opened door)
Vav = Nail, Peg, to secure (shaped like a nail)
Hey = as above.
Salvation and deliverance were to come from the hand of YHWH
The two Hey's represent the coming forth of His Son. First to do the work of YHWH's Salvation, and secondly, when He returns to deliver the world and establish His Kingdom.
The Vav represents the death of our Saviour Yahshua on the cross.
An interesting point is that the sign "nailed" above Yahshua's head read: "Yahshua of Nazareth, King of the Jews."
In Hebrew it read "Yashua Hanetzeret V'melech Hayehudim". (Note the first four letters)
John 8:28 Therefore Jesus said: "When once you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am,...
