I was wondering why do some people put G-d in their posts instead of God? Do they feel it's disrespectful to speel it with the "o"?

If I remember correctly, people of Jewish descent do not speak (or write) the name of God in any form - Yaweh, God, Yeshua, etc. Instead of writing the name of God, they will put a dash in place of the "o". I believe Muslims do this as well.

I read somwhere the reason they write G-d is because when the scribes where writing, if mistakes were made, they would scrap the parchment/papyrus/what-have-you and start all over again.

I must say, I still don't understand it - what's so disrespectful about vowels?
Plus, "God" is not the name of God!

There is nothing wrong with the vowels. The Jewish tradition is to avoid saying Gods name. If you never say Gods name then you never run the risk of taking the Lords name in vain, using it disrespectfully.
But again it is a Jewish "tradition" not a Law of the OT nor a Christian requirement.
