question:

when you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?

an airplane pilot. My best friend and I had a dream that we would go to the Airforce academy, fly jets, retire and then start our own commercial air company. I'm a pastor, he's an Air force graduate, currently a major in the Airforce, in charge of his own squadron:)

very interesting! it's been said that if my late dad who was a Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam war, was alive, he'd have a career in flying with the Blue Angels or have a career with the CIA. He's a Navy man through and through. My uncles (on my dad's side), also served in the military~ one was in the Navy, and one was in the AF. The AF uncle knew how to fly choppers in a way that my dad knew how to fly A-6 bombers. They both are top-notch pilots, the "Top Gun" in their fly-boy days. :)

however, I'm a pastor, husband and father of a 2-1/5 year old and a 7 month old, so I forget what that's like

I guess it will take more than a decade until you find how it's like.

we pastor different churches.
When our daughter (now 2-1/2) was born, we wanted her close to mom, so she went to church with sherev.
this year, the bishop moved us to each follow the other, in other words, we switched churches.
My daughter is now at home in what has become her church so she goes with me.
Our son (just 7-1/2 months) is with his mother

If train A leaves at 3am on Sunday travelling at an average speed of 50MPH and train B leaves London at 4pm on Monday travelling at an average speed of 45MPH, which was your first thought: that London is on an island and the train can't cross the water, or that I didn't mention where train A was headed?

the first thing I noticed was that you didn't mention where A was leaving from

Hi . What's your favorite Christmas memory?
when i was a child, I always tried to be polite about the presents I got, never good to look a gift horse in the mouth;). I accidently opened my sister's present and spent a bit of time being "excited" about a pink butterfly covered make up case! the look on my parents' faces should have told me I was wading in too deep, but finally my sister (four years older) whirled around and grabbed it---THAT'S MINE, GIVE IT TO ME!
I was embarrassed, but I laugh about it a lot now. We were blessed and had fun every year at Christmas with our time as a family!

Did you make any New Year's resolutions? :)
NEVER, makes me feel guilty--usually by around Jan 6th!

Hi Herev:wave:

Is there any one particluar thing that stands out in your mind that touched your heart while pastoring?

herev
19th January 2007, 01:18 AM
wow, so many things, hmm.
the first thing that comes to mind was a man named Jimmy. He was dying when I became the pastor of that church in June of 2005. I visited with him often; he was the type that suffered in silence, didn't complain, homebound, hooked all of his day and night to a long oxygen line, and all night to dialysis equipment.
He had never joined the church, not in his 86 years. He attended before he was ill, but just never joined. His family--wife, children, grands and great grands had all grown up at the church.
When I visitied he was always welcoming and friendly. He had a wonderful smile and he would grin when I walked in and point his finger at me like a little child--a twinkle in his eye. He did this with everyone. He was always excited to see folks come to his home.
In November, he asked me if I would baptize him. Of course, I was happy to do so. There in his home, surrounded by family and a few friends from the church, I baptized him (sitting in his reclyner:)).
He told me later in the week that he knew he belonged to Jesus, knew where he was going when he died and that the baptism was NOT for him. He said he wanted his family to have that memory.
I buried Jimmy in June of 2006. the last time I got to talk to him was in the hospital a few days before. When i walked in the room, he pointed his finger at me and grinned that same playful grin--that same twinkle in his eye. I will never forget Jimmy and how he blessed my life and so many others. He blessed my life and my ministry.
