I'm soo excited and I just can't hide-I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
Ok... really cool thing happening this Sunday. You guys be praying with me...
The music minister at St. Thomas More where I am vicar will be ordained as a deacon Sunday night. Now that in itself, while a good thing, is not reason to go bonkers. What has me so excited is the fact that there are people coming from so many different Traditions and denominational backgrounds to be part of the service. I don't think our city has EVER had such an ecumenical service as what will be taking place.
The following have confirmed that they will be there: an Episcopal priest, a transitional deacon with the Anglican Mission in America, a Russian Orthodox priest, the pastor of First Christian Church, Roman Catholics, Baptists, Pentecostals, Charismatics, Non-denominationals, and of course the Old Catholics.
I just LOVE it when the Body of Christ puts aside their differences and worships together.

We've done close... We had a Greek Orthodox priest, Roman Catholic nuns, baptists, evangelicals, pentecostals, etc, all at our Christian Unity service. We were thrilled to see the Greek Orthodox Priest, let me tell you... (And we were using an OC liturgy!)
Getting the body of Christ together to worship is one of the things that I'm VERY keen on.

Incidentally, is your M.M going to be a transitional deacon, or permanent deacon?

I don't think I've ever heard a priest quote the Pointer Sisters before. :P
Sounds like a great example of ecumenism on a local level, where all ecumenism should start. Please give us a report afterwards!

TimothyTransitional deacon...
Along these lines, we recently (a few weeks ago) had a couple contact me about doing the baptism for their godchild, since they were having problems with the Roman church due to divorce/remarriage on the part of the godparents.
They have started coming to mass, are thrilled we will be baptizing their goddaughter next Sunday, and he has approached me about starting the discernment process to become a permanent deacon. (He has significant training in the Roman Church but was shut out due to the divorce.) We are going this evening to meet with my bishop--So... I may have another "deacon in the works" soon.
OH... AND HE'S HISPANIC/BI-LINGUAL-- PRAISE GOD!!

That sounds like a wonderful experience. I hope you'll fill us all in on how it goes. I'd be especially interested in exactly how each person participated in the mass (formal concelebrants? Just in the procession? Co-communion consecrators?), which ones took communion, etc.

I'm absolutely exhausted right now, but did want to give you guys a brief overview. Mass went wonderfully well. We had Roman Catholics, Old Catholics, Anglicans, Russian Orthodox, Baptists, Pentecostal/Charismatics, Disciples of Christ-- and others, I just can't remember where everyone was from.
The presence of God was SOOO incredibly strong during the Eucharist (communion). Everyone seemed to really be touched by the service. God is good!
