Hey all,
I'm Carrie, a simple Midwestern girl gone theology. If it involves chocolate or something dorky, I'm in.
Other than that . . . ???

I read classical philosophy & theology, mostly.

I like theology books (not that I understand them :o ), but philosophy I stay away from.
How did you get into those subjects?

How did you get into those subjects?
I never have a good answer for that. It just seemed right.
I was interested in theology, and soon I found myself moving across the country to grad school. I knew that if I wanted to do Catholic theology well that I'd need at least a surface knowledge of classical philosophy. The philosophy gives one a vocabulary to make sense of the theology.
And I have to tell you, studying philosophy affected me profoundly. So many things that I'd always found to be true, I now had the language to describe. I found that while I'd studied biology as an undergrad, that my science classes were asking the same questions as the philosophers were. I found the philosophical answers more satisfying, and they appealed to my innate sense of beauty. I saw that my science was a fantastic resource that could be used in theology, and that it gave me more credibility in this modern world.

I am glad that philosophy did not affect you spiritually (in a negative sense). My brothers were both pulled away from Christianity by studying philosophy. :(
Are you done with your studies? And what do you plan to do with that type of degree?

That is certainly unfortunate. But the Lord uses even that in His Master Plan. I found philosophy to be very freeing. It provided the answers that science never could (nor tried to).

At least for now. I'd love to do something formally again, but I'm not sure whether that opportunity will present itself. I'm really just one of those people who is content to keep learning. And I learn well in the classical classroom sense.
Right now I'm teaching theology.

1) Right now it's reruns of the Gilmore Girls. I'm also a FOXNews nut. And I like watching shows with surgeries on them. Oh, and Sunday afternoon chick flicks on Lifetime.
2) Yes.
3) Being too cautious. I test the waters, think, analyze, analyze, and did I mention analyze? before I do anything. I think that sometimes leads to missed opportunities.
4) He's just so cute!
5) Regina Angelorum or Regina Coeli; but I like Mater Dei and Theotokos too. I also think she should be called Clearest (or Most Clear) Window.

Mmm, chocolate. I used it as an example in my classes this week. We were talking about the desert monastics being temperate. So I asked them what it meant to temper chocolate. Good times.

I only get to pick two?
OT: I like my sig from Isaiah.
NT: I love the NT. John in particular. His prologue is great. And Ch 6. Also Jn 14:4 - "Where I am going, you know the way."
