Hiya, BILL!

Let me be the FIRST to congratulate you on your Grand Opening of your very own thread...;)

so, so let me start with a question~ when you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?

~Lori/loribee59 :)

I got one too...

If you could live anywhere on earth and at any time, where and when would it be?

ps139
14th September 2005, 09:25 PM
Ahh thanks for posting Lori! :)

The answer to your question is an odd one....

When I was young, I wanted to be a green pig. hahahah!! Yup, I used to walk around telling everyone I wanted to be a green pig. ^_^

Then, at around 4, I decided I wanted to be a garbage man, and I used to "practice" in the supermarket by hanging off the shopping cart, grabbing items we didn't need as my mom pushed me down the aisles. ^_^

If you could live anywhere on earth and at any time, where and when would it be?

Ohhh... that is a good one!

It would have to be Nazareth at the time of Jesus. To meet God in the flesh...walking around and talking to the Creator of everything that exists... can anyone want anything more??

Why wouldn't they want to respond, you're a pretty cool guy. :)

If you had to list 5 things you would like to accomplish in life, what would they be?

Good question!

* live in a foreign country for an extended period of time
* win hundreds of millions of dollars, walk into the ghetto, and help poor people get their lives back on track
* master the piano, classical guitar, violin, and the bongos
* save someone's life
* retire at age 24 ;) :)

Secondly, tell me about your first car. Total piece of junk or babe magnet?
Ahhh, you ask about the "Battle Axe"!
It was actually both! It was a total piece of junk. It was good back in 1984 when it was produced, but by the time I got it, you had to "guess" what gear it was in when you were driving! It was a station wagon, and the layer of cloth on the ceiling had totally come off, so when I had people in my car I asked them to "sign" the roof by writing their name in the foam with their fingers. Believe it or not there are a lot of girls' names up there!! LOL ^_^

What doors are you outside of in your pic?
Hey Carry,

Those are the doors of la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in the main plaza of Fuengirola, Spain. Translated to English, that is "the church of Our Lady of the Rosary."

You can see central tenets of the Nicene Creed depicted in the door. The left top portion depicts creation. On the right, on the top corner, you can see the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel visited Mary, the handmaiden of the Lord. And below that is a scene of the Crucifixion. Written next to those pictures, in Spanish, are the words from the Creed. Also if you notice toward the bottom, there are the signs for "Alpha" and "Omega," a clear reference to when Gods says in Revelation, "I am the Alpha and Omega."

It is really beautiful! :)

What is your idea of a perfect way to spend a Saturday?

ps139
22nd September 2005, 11:29 PM
Hmmm, okay this should be good :)

Morning:
sleep in, but not too late. Wake up around 10. Shower, then go make myself some bacon and eggs and some good strong coffee.

If it is a nice day, I like to go outside and do some yardwork, and get some fresh air. A trip to the gym is also nice.

I try to spend some time at church on Saturday, either in adoration, or at confession, or both.

Then spend some time online (usually here!), or read, with some more coffee. :) Also, I usually play my guitar for at least a half hour or so.

Then a nice dinner, preferably penne with vodka sauce (prosciutto melted into the sauce) and a glass of wine.

Then go out with my friends and have some good laughs. Either that or spend some quality time with the fam.

Go home and read some more, play some more guitar, pray, and go to sleep.

That is my ideal Saturday. I don't always get to do it, usually I get some of those elements in, but when I get all of them, boy is it good!!!! :)

Yes, I did, it is awesome. When I was in Germany a few weeks ago there was a nice Italian gelato parlor right next to our hotel. During the week I was there, I probably could have put the owner's kid through college with all the gelato I ate!!! Surprisingly they have some excellent Italian places in Germany.

What bothers me is there isn't a whole lot of gelato shops around in USA, in fact, there is one or two in Portland OR, about 45 minute drive from where I am. Do you have one nearby where you are?

LOL....then I guess the next place I'll move to is a town full of Italians! They sure have a way with food! I dunno if you ever watch Italian cooking with Jeff Smith years ago, but I found this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0380723913/ref=ase_terisrecipepage/104-6205676-7585502?v=glance&s=books) by him. :)

ps139
23rd September 2005, 12:58 AM
My "better half" is Italian. ;) My family heritage is Napolitano and Abruzzese.
I'm also a bit Irish and German. I forget where the Irish is from but the German blood is Bavarian. Each March 17th, I am 100% Irish. ;) ^_^

Thank you for the book recommendation, I am always looking for good Italian literature such as that. :) If you want the best Italian food in the USA, move to a town where you can see the Manhattan skyline, or go into NYC itself. And don't go to Baltimore, I lived there for 4 years, they have the best crabs, but they had the worst pizza ever! JHMO of course. :)

loribee59

Oh, gotta share a story: I have two friends who work with me, they both have curly hair due to their background....One has Sicilian-Italian background, and one has Roman-Italian background. 1.5 weeks later, I was sitting with a group eating lunch, when I pointed to B that she's Italian, then I pointed to T, that she's Silicone Italian. Talk about a foot in the mouth! T's priceless look of surprise/shock and the teasing she got for being called "silicone"! :o  :sorry: I think it took me a while to live that one down. :P

I've been to NYC three times, and I've never thought to dine out Italian style...although...if I ever get back to NYC one of those days, do you know of a good deli that makes the best danged hot pastrami sandwich...??? *drools*
One thing about NYC...is the SMELL of food EVERYWHERE. Amazing.

ps139
23rd September 2005, 09:31 AM
Lori that's a hysterical story!! ^_^
Next time you go to NYC, go to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx :).

Jules, yes, there is a verse which was my first ever "favorite verse" and then I sort of forgot about it but I heard it at Mass 2 weeks ago and it is important to always keep in mind when deciding anything. It has been on my mind lately.

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and destroy himself in the process?
Mark 8:36

This makes me think, you know, if you do not win the lottery and travel the planet, it is not so bad. :)

To forgive those who have deeply wounded me. That is the hardest lesson of all. Because part of me wants to lash out at those who hurt me, and hurt them. But the other part of me realizes that I am no better than the soldiers who crucified Christ, and if He can forgive them, I have absolutely no right to not forgive someone else.

Favorite outdoor activities??

In a weird sort of way I actually enjoy mowing the lawn! It is just getting myself to do it that's the problem :)

I love going hiking. There is a mountain 20 mins from me, about a 15 minute hike to the top and you can see 3 states... it's beautiful!

I like being in the woods in general, and just exploring, though I haven't done this in a while.

I LOVE going out to tan at the beach, and I also love canoeing in a nice big Lake.

But #1 favorite activity would be playing football :). I played from age 10-20 and boy did I love it!!!

A really cool place is "Windows of the World" (I think that is the name) which is a rotating restaurant on top of the Times Square Marriott Marquis. As you dine, you are slowly, almost imperceptibly rotated, so that in the course of a meal you can see pretty much all of NYC from a realllly high view. It is the best! It is expensive too... What music do they play?

ps139
23rd November 2005, 07:14 PM
They have their own style... they basically pioneered the entire "jambands" genre of music. In many ways they are similar to the Grateful Dead, including having long jams, and an almost cultic following of unwashed hippies ;) but they have their own distinct sound, and their musical range is very wide - they play standard rock, bluegrass, spacey music, funk, jazz, pseudo-classical, latin... they are all over the place but they have their own distinct sound. The best way to know is to give them a listen! :)
And if you do not like them, there is still hope. I hated them for a full 2 years before I finally "got it" and now they are my favorite band ever, I even drove 8 hours then waited 15 hours in traffic one time to see them! I also once turned down $1000 cash for a ticket on New Years Eve 2002.

Is there one adventure you would like to do in your lifetime that you haven't done yet? If so, what is it?Yes, there certainly is!

At some point in my life I would like to make the pilgrimate to Santiago de Compostela.

for more info on that, see here:
http://www.csj.org.uk/

or just google "Camino de Santiago"

The remains of St. James the Greater (the brother of John) are believed to be buried in the city of Compostela de Santiago, Spain. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims from all over Europe would make a pilgrimage to this shrine. The most pure reasons, in my opinion, were to make it a truly spiritual pilgrimage, offering up all of the pain and hardship of the journey to the Lord. They would aim to arrive at Compostela on St. James' feast day. The journey could take months. People still do it today, and I would love to do this sometime in my life.

Thanks for reviving my thread, Heather! :)

A friend of mine has done this, walking from the Spanish border. One of the best things about it, she said, was the companionship of the pilgrims, who were of all ages and types. She spent several days in Compostela after and found it a thoroughly rewarding experience. She certainly would encourage everyone to do it...

Oooh, the Camino de Santiago... A friend of mine did that one 2 years ago. He walked all the way from southern France to Santiago de Compostela. He said it was quite challenging at times, but amazing. It took him about 2 months to do the whole thing.

Ever heard of the Romeria del Rocio? It's a pilgrimage that takes place in Spain around Pentecost. It's still very traditional - people walk, go on horseback, or ride in oxcarts to El Rocio and they wear traditional costumes (women wear flamenco dresses). I have got to do that one at least once in my life... hopefully if I can return to Spain next year!

I've thought about it, even tried about it, but the sad reality is that I have a physical condition known in some circles as "white man's disease." :)

I played college football, I played other sports all throughout my life... but dance? I was never so good at it.

Back in my "former life" I used to go to raves and put on some nice shows with the glowsticks, but that was as much 'dancing' as I really ever did. :(

I can play guitar pretty well but can't play drums to save my life... my rhythm is lacking. :)

I would love to take lessons though! I am thinking of trying one of the locally offered classes in dancing the tango, waltz, etc... just so I look like I know what I'm doing at weddings. :)

So I guess I can count on your vote in opposition to the English-only rule.

Oh yeah... definitely... Canon in D on my guitar. I play it to people who know they've heard the tune somewhere... can't remember where... and they then think I'm a virtuoso because I can play the melody. Obviously this does not include any of my friends who actually play the guitar. :)

Runner up would be me struggling through "Dust in the Wind" and then trying to start a conversation before I get to the part that I can't play. ^_^

Ohhh... that is a good one!

It would have to be Nazareth at the time of Jesus. To meet God in the flesh...walking around and talking to the Creator of everything that exists... can anyone want anything more??

My husband always said this too .. for that question. It is a good answer.
