Orthodox singing over Vasilievsky Spusk commemorated Beslan victims

Moscow, September 5, Interfax - Orthodox hymns - irmoses and refrains from the requiem canon - went up in commemoration of the Beslan victims over Vasilievsky Spusk in Moscow Saturday afternoon.

Mass meeting of silence, entitled ‘Without Words,’ was held here, participating in which were some 30.000 people, according to the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs.

The bell especially installed on Vasilievsky tolled 331 times (corresponding to the number of victims - IF). People listened to the bell with lighted candles and with their bowed heads. The candles then were put at candlesticks at the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God commonly known as St.Basil’s Cathedral.

‘331 people, 186 children including, will never walk on earth again. We have only to mourn, remember and live and to do anything possible so that such tragedy never happen again’, an activist of ‘Nashi’ (Our Own) movement which sponsored the meeting said.

According to the movement leader Vassily Yakemenko, over 100.000 people took part in the similar meetings of silence held in more than 30 cities of the country Saturday.
